I am an apprentice at network rail currently still in westwood. when I goto depot I will be working as a track inspector. this involves walking down the track and looking for faults on a daily basis. I will be working a mix between day and night shifts also on weekends
this course lets you test your skills In your chosen discipline. I took track so I developed skills in bench fitting, which is mainly hand skills and using a pillar drill. I also developed skills in maintaining mechanical devices where I stripped a points machine into single components and rebuilt it
you spend the first six months of this programme at network rails westwood campus will one hundred and fifty other apprentices. this is ideal as it means you are not alone and can meet new people and have fun when on the first 6 months of this apprenticeship. I've enjoyed it
this programme is structured very well as you get each subject on a block basis which means you will not forget what you've learnt when you come back to it. there is a timetable given to you to better help you understand what room you are in and what subject you are doing
should there be any issues you can take them up with almost anyone at network rail and they will always do their best to help you and resolve any issues you might have. if you are struggling with work the babcock tutors wil stay behing and help you they will even hold evening catch up sessions around 3 or 4 times a week
the training provider (babcock) support anywhere they can. they again do this by giving you one to one help, they will stay behind and help you on breaks and they will also hold evening classes should you still need support with a subject. even the tutors who do not teach you will help you with a subject
my qualifications will help me understand my role and be able to carry out my role more effectively and efficiently. we are also given leadership qualifications to prepare us for a future role a team leader. already giving us a chance at progression within network rail. the qualifications are suitable
network rail encourage apprentices to organise charity events and social events. they will help to organise them where possible. there are places all over the westwood campus where you can socialise. there are facilities that also encourage social events like the gym and sports hall. the fitness staff will also help
Yes
