  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My day to day role is managing home claims after they have been registered. we will take on new claims and introduce ourselves to policy holder and explain we will be the point of contact. we will investigate and settle claims alongside chasing suppliers and adjusters we also handle complaints and proactively manage issues

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • i have learned to be more vigilant when identifying fraud, how to deal with difficult, vulnerable or irate customers in a calm and productive manner i have developed my customer service skills, this is done be building trust and confidence with customers also my time management has improved as we need to deal with a portfolio of claims

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The apprenticeship was really interesting, i didnt realise there was so much to learn about insurance, i enjoyed the challenge at difficult points and getting to know others with a similar goal ive enjoyed the benefits of having the tools to now deal with decision on cover within my role

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • the programme was well structured, we had dedicated trainers who would book in time to assist with the CII text books and another for the professional qualification we also where give time to study within the business there was a clear path of progression from start to finish which made the structure easier to follow

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • the employer was extremely supportive actively assisting with any issues faced within the apprenticeship we had help from others who have already passed the exams there has also been a point of contact for anything we needed who was always very approachable the managers where very understanding when additional time was needed for tasks to be completed

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • we had 2 training providers we had Babington's for the CII books they where really helpful, the person leading this side had many years experience in the field and was very knowledgeable, also really approachable when help was required we then had microcom who dealt with the professional qualifications they help at each stage make sure the work was up o scratch and explained Clearly with improves

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • i feel i have been given the tools to deal with claims a lot better as i have the knowledge within insurance law and general claims management this helps when a claims decision is required for cover and stepping into the mind-set of the ombudsman as we will need to abide by the rules

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • there always events that are set up within the building this is usually end of year party's, treasure hunt games with the building charity days for the individual teams management also tries to organise cross site events to get to know the teams that work in offices across the country

  • Yes

  • direct line is a great friendly place to work and tried to help progress careers as much as possible they also offer a great benefits package the apprenticeship is also a great part of dlg as it will create more opportunities Direct Line also try progress people to get CII qualifications outwith the apprenticeship


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Direct Line?
  • Anyone applying for Direct line should love a challenge and at times things can be difficult but it always remains a positive place to work there is a lot of support no matter the need great place to start and progress a career in the insurance industry in any section of the general insurance market
