  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role as a Assistant Content Manager- Food, means I am responsible for managing and creating all food content Tesco produces across all the digital platforms. No two days are the same in my role, but it can range from spending all day on a photo shoot creating the content for the website/social media platforms, to spending time looking at the insights and planning the content for the next season, to reviewing content to working with the wider marketing team to make sure everything is aligned.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt an incredible amount of skills. Having the opportunity to work across multiple functions means I have learnt skills and knowledge from all areas of the business not just one, which has given me a great business acumen. There are hundreds of courses and training opportunities provided- for all staff not just apprentices, and everyone is extremely supportive of my development.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my programme, getting to work in such a successful company like Tesco means there are a plethora of opportunities available and it's great to see the work I do on a daily basis having a real impact on the business. Everyone is really nice and there are always social activities as well.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Overall the programme has been quite well structured, however depending on what's going on in the business things can become a bit more chaotic, especially when you're due to move role when there's recruitment freezes/redundancies- but HR are always really helpful and everything is sorted in the end it might just be a bit last minute.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive loads of support from my employer, not only my manager but my entire team, and HR are always there to support me and offer me advice if I need it. Whether it be giving me time off as study leave, or simple moral support in helping choose a topic for my coursework.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • An incredible amount of support, people are always there to help with whatever I need. Everyone is supportive and flex my workload depending on how much uni work i have at the time and are very accommodating in making sure I leave work on time, because they know I have to go home and do uni work.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Doing a degree along side working has definitely had benefits. The work I do at uni is directly linked to what I'm doing at work and has meant I am able to dedicate more time and research into topics that might get overlooked had I not been doing a qualification.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are lots of social things that go on within Tesco and especially my department. There is a department netball and football team that compete against other functions in Tesco. There are lots of professional networks that run events as well such as Women in Tesco, LGBTQ+ groups and more.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Tesco to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Tesco has provided me with an incredible amount of opportunities as it does with all it's staff. The company culture is great and there is lots of room for progression. Having worked in multiple functions across Tesco I know that it is consistently good and is not only the area I work in, but the business as a whole

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Tesco?
  • Be yourself, Tesco has a very open and diverse culture and wants you to bring your best self to work. There's no point putting on a front through the application process as you won't enjoy yourself as much if you're trying to be something you're not.
