On a day to day basis i am out with the permanent way gang, often i shadow the technician whilst he is working. Tough i am working and correcting areas of faults on the track. I use a range of tools to correct the faults that have been found and have a high level of responsibility when carrying out these tasks.
I have gained the ability to speak clearly in front of a group, ensuring that i make sure everyone is understanding of what i am saying. I have furthered my mental maths ability and i am able to do a range of calculations easily and quickly that help me in y day to day working.
I have very much enjoyed the entirety of the programme, I feel that I have gained a lot of new skills from the beginning at west wood and that i have also been able to again further my knowledge and understanding. I look forward to getting up for work in the morning where as in other jobs i have had i did not.
For the work that I am doing and the job role that i want to carry out i feel that the programme i am following has been tailored to my needs, it has allowed for me to undertake all the tasks i have needed to do as well as gain other skills in sections i would not have normally of chosen.
From my employer and manager i have recieved all support that i have needed and i have always been able to ask for help when needed. Everyone is very understanding of situations and if needed you are able to talk to specific people to help with the problem that you are in.
I receive all support that is necessary, i am able to ask someone if i ever have a problem with a task i am undertaking or i feel i am falling behind with my work. I am able to ask for extra training in different areas i feel i need help with and i feel i all the support benefits me as an apprentice.
Because of the one to one support that i had received i feel that it has allowed for me to preform better in my job role as i have developed the necessary skills to be able to use them day by day in work. The qualification also carries a lot of weight when giving it in information about myself allowing me to do things i may not of been able to do before.
whilst in west wood i was a part of extra curricular activities that included doing a 10 km run for charity, i would regularly use the pool facilities that were available and i was able to swim again something i had stopped doing previously. as well as also socially playing pool and entering a small pool league with friends.
Yes
Because it is a highly upstanding company, there are many jobs roles that can be suited to anyone and everyone, they are able to cater to everyone's needs and give advice on where they feel people would be suited to work. they also do not discriminate and are able to employ anyone.
To be confident in the answers that they give and to answer with what you feel is the correct answer rather than giving the answer they want to hear, as seeing something from a new perspective may give you the advantage needed to progress in your career. I have had a friend start the apprenticeship in the last year and she is doing very well with it all and is very much enjoying it.
