  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am an analyst, the entry level role in the Deloitte tax practice. I assist other members of staff in a variety of tasks, including research, benchmarking, drafting of papers or PowerPoint presentations. I also sit in on calls/meetings and make notes, converting them into a digital form post-meeting/call.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I feel my skillset has developed considerably. My proficiency on Microsoft Excel has improved hugely, due to the demands of the role. I have become better at analysing data and producing final deliverables to how this analysis. I feel my writing skills have also improved, allowing me to write more concisely.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I do really enjoy the job/programme. I feel like the company culture is good, whilst being hard working and sometimes long hours. However I find myself interested in the work and willing to go the extra mile. Social events with the team are enjoyable and, currently at least, I feel that the work life balance is appropriate.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It seems reasonably structured. I know when my exams are well in advance. However it seems that the training provider are poor at responding to email enquiries; this could definitely be improved on as many people seem to have had similar issues. But overall I am happy with the programme so far.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Support from the employers is limited to days for study leave, which are very useful as they have given me all the time necessary to learn the material and pass the exams. We have a designated member of staff to contact for any queries relating to our exams/course and he either answers the question or points us in the right direction.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Online training materials are very thorough, if rather long and very time consuming to work your way through. But at least they are there if you need them and they are particularly useful at explaining some of the trickier concepts or giving solutions to any example questions that have been set.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I have a very limited knowledge of the world of business/finance from my school and university studies, so I believe for me the programme is incredibly useful as it has allowed me to study this world. Whilst little of it is hugely relevant in the workplace, having a general idea of how everything works is crucial.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are many events such as these put on by my employers. A wide variety of sports teams exist, all of which can be easily joined and played for regularly. There have been many social events organised by the teams, including quizzes. We ate encouraged to attend training courses which also operate as networking events.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Deloitte to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I believe that many of my friends would embrace the culture at Deloitte and enjoy the work we are given. It would enable them to get a professional qualification which will stay with them for the rest of there lives, but improve on a vast array of skills which will serve them well on whatever their chosen career path.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte?
  • For an interview process, be yourself and try and keep things casual. Do your research and know your subject as best you can before attending the interview. Brush up on skills in Microsoft office, particularly excel, as this is where I felt the most behind upon starting at the firm.
