a range of work ranging from client take on to more technical pieces of research. This includes preparing proposals for clients and taking part in client calls. We balance this with exam study and completing what is required through our apprenticeship pathway. The work is quite data heavy and largely based around excel.
I've learnt how to deal with clients better, whether this is conversational skills or technical know how gained from shadowing seniors. It has also provided us with an opportunity to develop our own presentation skills and client skills through becoming a point of contact for clients on a regular basis.
I enjoy the work in the team however the apprenticeship programme itself is incredibly admin heavy. The portal we use to log out info is hard to use and slow. Most of the "apprentices" are actually graduates who have university degrees yet we have been registered as apprentices at the company. This means that we have to spend a lot of our time completing online apprentice admin etc.
Deloitte provide good training but the apprenticeship programme itself is quite basic. You are required to provide very detailed reflection on your learning, the amount of time you spend doing this is excessive and puts pressure on your work hours. Our year group are very disapproving of being registered as apprentices despite being graduates.
HR can be slow to respond to apprenticeship queries. We do receive a lot of support from our coaches and people leaders however this can vary depending on who you are given as coach. In my previous team I would not speak to my coach fro months at a time, however this has improved in my new team and we meet on a regular basis,
First Intuition give an good amount of support to you through your exams, we can contact lecturers directly and they're always wiling to help. We do however have a lot of online learning as opposed to classroom, I feel like this really impacts us when it comes to exams and I speak to people doing similar qualifications at different firms who receive more face to face training.
It certainly helps us with technical work. however, I fell like the amount of online learning is harmful, you don't retain this information as well and it is harder to ask questions as you could in a classroom. Instead you have to email in separately which isn't as helpful in the moment. Sometimes you just need someone there to explain something to you.
Yes there are lots of activities to do outside of work. These range from sporting to networking and just general team drinks. The teams tend to be quite good at organising social events to keep everyone entertained during the week. Some past examples would be bowling or team netball games.
Yes
The overall experience at the firm is good, really nice people and interesting work. The one thing that would stop me from recommending the firm over other big 4 would be the fact that we are enrolled as apprentices. Nobody likes this and it means a lot of extra admin time in work (also reducing chargeability). I do also feel like you get more face to face training hours at other big 4 firms.
Try your best to be heard in the group interviews but don't be overbearing. they like to see that you're confident and have ideas but not that you'll step on others in interviews to make yourself look good. Be confident in your partner interview, these can range depending on which partner you get.
