I help assist with internal taxes for assignees who travel overseas. This will include making sure that the individuals are not doubly taxed overseas and in the UK as well as making sure they are paying the correct taxes and social security. I also help complete Tax Returns for our internal employees should they have a Tax Return requirement.
Having never worked in tax before, I have learnt everything from scratch. Deloitte have sponsored me to complete the tax exams which has helped to develop my knowledge in tax. I am now more competent in tax so much so that I am starting to review work from other members of our team.
The programme, although tough, is extremely fulfilling. I do not get to see a lot of the world of tax as my role is specialised, however the programme has opened my eyes to the different ways in which tax is calculated and used which in turn, has helped open my eyes at work to keep a look out for such scenarios.
I am currently part of the tax team which is a well organised team. Every individual knows what is expected of them as regular meetings are set up to discuss objectives and how we can make processes better. As a result, I know exactly what is expected of me and am always on the lookout on how to improve both myself, and the team.
My employers are very supportive from my day to day life to encouraging me to study. They have sponsored me for my tax exams and give me time off to study for these days. On a daily basis, if I have a question, my employers are more than willing to lend me a hand and explain clearly on any queries that I have.
I have a lot of support as I am given plenty of study days for my qualifications in addition to annual leave allowance for the course dates. Provided I let the team know in advance, booking annual leave is not a problem for exams, course dates and study days should I so wish to take any.
My qualifications have helped me with my job role enormously. By giving me a wider knowledge of tax, I have been able to use this information to help with the tax returns that I prepare and feel more confident in answering any queries that come to our team. It has also given me greater confidence in my day to day job as I have more of an eye of how one thing could affect another further down the line.
I have previously volunteered to help at MK College to help students with their CV and interviewing skills. This allowed me to take a leadership role by me passing on my own skills and experiences of what is required to work at Deloitte. In addition, I have partaken in the MK Deloitte football which is a weekly event for Deloitte MK employees.

Deloitte is a fantastic place to work where they really care about your work life balance. For example, if you needed to leave at a certain time, you could make up the hours on another day or have a shorter lunch. This flexibility is essentially, in my opinion, when looking for an ideal job.
I would say be prepared for hard work before applying at Deloitte. Read up on Deloitte vision for the future and how they are trying to achieve those goals. On a personal level, demonstrate that you also buy into these goals and have examples ready to prove this. Be sure that you are really ready for the work as, although the rewards are great, the hard work required to achieve these rewards may be much greater.
