My role day to day is to assist and learn from the more senior members of the Tax team. I work on clients in order to deliver a wide range of tax compliance work. I assist in the preparation of accounts, client deliverables and assist witht the day to day management of clients.
I have learned how to effectively manage client relationships. I have learned how to communicate and work effectively as a team member and assist with more senior individuals to deliver work. I have learnt a variety of different administrative skills. I have learned how to manage projects, as being the main leader of several projects with other staff members.
I enjoy my program greatly. It is an excellent experience into a competitive workplace environment. It gives you a variety of skills which prepare you for the workplace and with a company which encourages personal growth and learning. The workplace is lovely with a variety of peoples all of whom are lovely and welcoming
We have set times for college and study and our day to day work is flexible enough that we can easily manage our commitments alongside it. We have regular meetings with a variety of people who manage our growth in a variety of ways, we also have other meetings with peers who support each other when we are struggling with work or study pressures.
I receive regular support from my employer in the form of both a buddy, coach and people leader who regularly check in on me as well as support from the wider team. It is a harsh learning curve and as such initially it can be difficult to get over the change in pace and work as such the support I received was and is still key.
I have an allowance of study days for each of the accounting exams I am completing, as well as scheduled and organised college time for every advanced or professional level exam I will be sitting. As such I receive regular and efficient support from central teams who streamline our learning experience across the country. We also have in house colleagues who are designated to assist us with our learning goals and deadlines.
My learning helps facilitate what I do on a day to day and vice versa. I believe they are a synergetic experience which helps me learn the absolute maximum from both. The only issue that I do find is that the learning does not necessarily follow what I am currently working on.
There are regular extra-curricular experiences to have with Deloitte. There is also a well accepted principle of if you would like to have extra socials and experiences at Deloitte that you are more than welcome to seek to create such extra curricular events yourself. You are also part of a regular distribution network which encourages the attendance of professional working events.
Yes
It is a great working environment where there is a clear progression path to which you can learn and develop. The people are warm and welcoming and there is a genuine team feel. In the accountancy sector you will never learn quite such a depth and breadth of clients in such a short time as when you are at Deloitte
Don't try and fit a mold and anticipate what they want you to be, ensure you come across in every question you answer and don't assume that there is 1 type of person. There are a multitude of personalities and workers in Deloitte. Most importantly don't underestimate the importance of being a person when you answer questions during your interview, at the end of the day you may get interviewed by a partner but they are just a person at the end of the day and talking to them as such will go a long way.
