  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a B2B TPI Relationship Manager in E.ON's Sales Function. I currently look after 12 of E.ON's most valued Third Party Intermediaries, visiting them on a regular basis to discuss their business strategies & any potential opportunities in the pipeline. I am also an escalation point, should they need this.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have only had a detailed induction session & one all day workshop so far. The workshop went over a number of different management techniques, such as SWOT & PESTLE planning, which I was already using as part of my role, but the session definitely developed my thinking. I also learnt about things such as Emotional Intelligence & the modals/theories around this area.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • It is very early days, but I have enjoyed the sessions so far. It fits well within our culture & has shown that E.ON is already quite far ahead when it comes to understanding & implementing the majority of the management theories we have discussed so far. The workshop was very interactive & the trainer very good at facilitating discussion & ideas from all who attended.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Initial impressions are that is is very organised. I know when the monthly workshops are for the next year, so that I may plan around them. We have received all workshops & materials well in advance of the sessions & I understand where to look for support if required. The only thing which lets this down a little is the online platform we need to use, which seems a little dated & not user friendly.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We have been offered this course as part of an internal talent development pool, which has the backing of our senior management team. We have an internal Apprenticeship Team, who have been supporting us on an ongoing basis & my Manager is very supportive of the apprenticeship, including the time I will need to study for it.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Again, very early to be answering, but our current Tutor has been great, considering we needed to change Tutor just before the course started, although we are unsure of why this changed. Our tutor has been very approachable & positive. One thing which has let them down is that we were asked to submit completed exam paper prior to Christmas & have never been advised of our score/marks. It is now mid-february.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Too early to say, but it has already helped my in my current role somewhat, but as this is a management development opportunity, I expect it will help me more in my next people management position & should help me to secure a relevant management role when it becomes available internally.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Not that I am aware of so far, but I have been exposed to people I had not met before, as part of our training group, this has allowed me to develop internal networks. As a lot of the workshop was interactive, we broke in to smaller groups, which was with people I had not currently worked with.

  • 9a. Would you recommend E.ON to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • They are a forward thinking company, with a passion for developing their employees further & reaching their potential. It is always amusing when talking to people, as the majority of us joined E.ON with the expectation of it being short term, but have now been there in excess of 10 year, which is a good reflection on the business & how good they are to work for.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to E.ON?
  • The Application process in my experience has always been structured & organised. The interviewers whilst professional, have always managed to put me at ease, given an interview is always going to be stressful, this is no easy task. Once you are within the business, the opportunities to move internally are endless, all you need to do is demonstrate the right behaviours & the business will support you in getting to where you want to be.
