  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned a variety of skills since becoming an engineer. I initially learned all the safety aspects that I need to apply to my working day including safe control of my work van. I was taught how to start working on different aspects of the network via training and buddying

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I love what I do. It is a vast network and there are plenty of challenges as I have grown as an engineer but it is very fulfilling getting customers in service and seeing their Broadband connection in action. it is a very satisfying career and there has been lots of learning support.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • it is very well structured. the first 12 weeks in a intensive period of training and buddying. Although it did not make me an expert engineer, it did give me the tools and contacts to progress and develop my knowledge. As I've grown I feel I am becoming more confident.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have received lots of support. the buddy system gives a great introduction to being out in the network and gives you a good contact for your working life. I still call my buddy from time to time for any challenging issues. my manager is pro active in being out and about with the team.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have had lots of support towards completing my NVQ. We have regular workshop days to keep up to speed on the programme and it means a lot can be achieved over the course of the first year. if I need time to complete evidence then time is given to support this.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think the qualification breaks down the importance of everything I do. it can be easy to do the things I do on a daily basis and overlook the sense of importance of what I do. the nvq serves as a great reminder of how much I achieve every day and gives me a tremendous sense of pride.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I know my buddy has done some really great charity based activities recently, being involved in the 'Soup Kitchen' in Plymouth, which is a delivery service to homeless people across the city so that people have access to food and drink in the evening when they might not necessarily be able to have without support. I know that Openreach will allow volunteering hours for charity work.
