On a day to day basis, my role involves creating small scale versions of what our production team does on plant, in order to ensure that the product will most likely be in specification and okay to run. This is to make sure that if the product does not go to plan, we are only wasting roughly 10-12kg inside the lab instead of 1 tonne out on plant.
While working in the technical teams, my teamworking skills have vastly improved. Everyone in the labs and offices are always available for help and they work together with you to complete any given tasks. As well as this, my communication skills have greatly developed while working here, as when working on projects or investigations, communication within your team is an extremely important skill to have.
I enjoy my programme a lot, i believe it has been well set out and laid out by both my work and kirklees college. Help is always there and offered by the HR team, my apprentice manager and my office workers. Everyone is friendly and made me and the other apprentices comfertable straight away in our roles.
As a 2 year programme, i believe it is very well structured as the layout of each aspect (NVQ, Assignments, exams etc.) have all been set with enough time for me as an apprentice to complete them with also plenty of time to learn my actual job and what it entails.
Throughout my apprenticeship, I have had troubles and queeries about the work, where i've been stuck or just needed a little push or help etc. and everyone who I work with have all been there to help and guide me through it. The HR team are there for any problems that includes in and outside work related problems. My supervisor, managers, other colleagues have also always been there to lend a hand if i have any queeries or problems aswell. Overall, the solenis apprenticeship team have supported me through any problems i have been going through and have been a great help.
The support given from our training providers is more than sufficient in my workplace and at college. They are extremely useful with college based work and also work based/NVQ work. For example, we are sometimes brought into college on the college holidays to catch up with work and given extra guidence and help.
My qualification helps me learn a lot more about chemistry, so instead of just doing the job and following the procedures, the qualification helps me get a better understanding of the molecular side and what is actually going on when, for example, i am polymerising a monomer - instead of just adding things into a bucket, i understand the scientific process behind it.
In my work place, there is an extra-curricular club called the 'sports and social club'. This is a club you can sign up to, which gives offers on events and sometimes have trips to places outside of work. For example, in 2018 they had a massive trip going to the york races, which involved a coach ride and tickets for half the price it would normally cost. This club presents amazing oppertunities for so cheap its hard to miss out.
Yes
I would recommend solenis to a friend as i believe it is a great company with loads of perks to the job. The apprentice side of Solenis would be a huge reccomendation to my friends as having the ability to get a job in such a big company with all the perks, help, the friendly environment and much more, while gaining qualifications is such an amazing oppertunity.
I'd advise them to be prepared. It's not an easy apprenticeship, as it requires a lot of work and dedication, though the help is there, whenever you need it. As previously mentioned, I believe it is such an amazing oppertunity and one that can not be wasted. I'd advise people to learn the job and enjoy their time here.
