My role involves working directly on client projects, with technical work involving a mixture of advisory and compliance work. I produce tax analyses on a variety of international projects and communicate directly with clients to understand their situation and produce the work as required. I also work on software development projects for innovative tax software.
I have developed broad tax knowledge since starting this role. I have also had opportunities to give training and present at careers events, allowing me to develop my interpersonal and presentation skills. Deloitte provides a huge variety of training in both skills and technical knowledge as you progress through your career, including residential training events.
I very much enjoy this apprenticeship. The work is varied, with a huge amount of responsible being given to apprentices from day one on the job. I've had the opportunity to work directly with large multinational clients, communicating with both clients and colleagues globally. This has given me a breadth of experience that is difficult to obtain.
The programme is very well structured, with a rotation scheme within the different teams in the office. This gives apprentices a chance to experience a variety of areas of the business before deciding on the area they'd like to specialise in. There is structured technical training both in the form of ACA and CTA exams, as well as training courses.
I receive a lot of support from my employer, including study leave for exams. Every apprentice has a buddy at work to help them out when they first join, as well as a coach who will support them throughout their career. There is always someone who can help you with any technical question.
We attend a financial college to study for our ACA and CTA qualifications. We are given study leave from work to attend college, as well as additional study leave for self study. All of the teams in the office are very understanding about the need to have enough time to revise for exams during busy periods.
We study for ACA, CTA and a Level 7 Apprenticeship. The combination of these programmes provides a very broad technical knowledge base, covering all areas of accounting, finance and business. This is very helpful at work, as I have an understanding of how our client's businesses operate as a whole.
There are regular social events at work, both informal and formal. There are sports teams such as a football team which plays weekly. We are able to attend networking events as frequently as we'd like, meeting people from a variety of companies who work in a variety of roles.

There is no better place to start a career than somewhere which gives you all of the tools you will need to take your career in any direction you like. You will be given responsibility on client projects as soon as you join and will develop technical knowledge very quickly.
Do a lot of research on what service line you'd like to join, as Deloitte offers a variety of opportunities, such as consulting, tax, technology, audit, risk advisory and many others. Make sure you have a good understanding of the service line you are applying for before your interview.
