  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Tax analyst, aim of helping with the analysis and review of client data to help clients with their employment tax issues and advice. Employment tax issues include issues on NIC, income tax, employee benefits and rewards. Also assistance with annual compliance in relation to tax of benefits and salaries received.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I’ve developed a range of skills, as well obtained a range of new skill. These skills include Communication skills, technical skills, interpersonal skills, time management skills, team work skills, professional skepticism and professional conduct. Other skills also include technical knowledge, Primarily that related to tax, e.g. how to tax certain benefits.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme is Really enjoyable as I’ve been able to obtain such a range of skills and technical knowledge. We’ve able to undertake real world experience alongside the complete exams and gain professional qualifications (ATT and CTA). This variety has made therefore this programme extremely enjoyable and something I’d recommend to others.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is extremely organised. We were first sent to a training academy where we learnt the basics, followed by joining the office where we obtained real life work experience. We then had periods in college to undertake professional qualifications, such as ATT, CTA. We get time off work to ensure we can study.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We have an exam coordinator as well as a deloitte coach, and another group of support. We have frequent catch ups with our fish to discuss the exams, the skills we’ve obtained and what we aim to achieve from this apprenticeship. As such, Deloitte has been extremely helpful and supportive.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • They’re always quick to reply to any questions. We also have meetings with our contact at our training provider where she ensures we are on the right path with the apprenticeship, if we have any queries or issues and what the next steps of the apprenticeship is. They also give webinars and lectures.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Technical knowledge awareness of tax due the taking the exams. I’m not from a tax or accounting background and this apprenticeship has been extremely helpful in ensuring I understand the basics of tax. I also learn by practice and the ability to undertake real world work experience has helped me substantially with this.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I’m part of the Muslim network at work, this helps to meet colleagues of my faith across the divisions. This is also helped extend my network as I can meet people from other divisions (eg audit, consulting) and this may be of extreme use when undertaking projects and work.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Extremely Supportive and helps develop your technical and personal skills. The apprenticeship also helps develop your interpersonal skills alongside the technical skills such as tax knowledge which helps you mould into a good consultant. Deloitte is an extremely prestigious organisation to work for too and has a great working environment


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte?
  • Practice interviews and have a solid understanding of the area you wish to apply for as there are many areas of tax (or even other division, eg audit, consulting etc). Practice with other people and try to understand the firms culture and value to see if the firm is a good fit for you and you’re a good fit for the firm
