My day to day role involves working with a variety of companies to help them fulfil their tax obligations. This can involve going to client meetings, siting in on calls, writing reports and drafting client emails depending on what the client requires. As well as this a lot of my day involves working with overseas teams and project managing tax projects which often take place across different jurisdictions.
As part of my apprenticeship I am completing the ACA-CTA qualifications. This means that I spend quite a lot of my time at college rather than in the office in order to study for my exams. Doing exams have allowed me to develop technical tax knowledge and also a wider understanding of how businesses work. As well as this Deloitte offers there own in house training for specific technical skills relevant to the job and also to teach softer skills.
I really enjoy being on the Deloitte programme and the balance between working and studying for exams has been well monitored which means you will never be working whilst studying for exams. This is great because it allows you to focus properly when you need to. As well as this, the team I am working for is very friendly and inclusive an we have lots of team socials which makes working at Deloitte great.
My exams and working time have been well structured, however in terms of actual apprenticeship specific training, there has not been any so far. The apprenticeship training providers who are subcontracted by Deloitte haven't given too much insight into what the apprenticeship part of the programme actually is and how it will be completed.
I initially received a lot of support from my employer in terms of providing time off during exams. my specific team within Deloitte provides their own internal training relevant to the department. Within my department, I have a coach and a buddy who are there to answer any questions I may have.
Most of the training is done through e-learning and timetables are provided of what you should get through each day. the challenging part of this is that some of the videos provided are slightly out of date and some don't work properly so this can be a little difficult. However, the tutors are always available over email should we have any questions and always reply very quickly to any queries.
My qualification definitely helps me to perform better in my role. Having tax specific knowledge is key to doing well in work as it enhances your understanding of the discussions going on around you. As well as this the ACA qualification provided through the training provider has allowed me to better understand how businesses work and therefore have helped me to perform better in my role.
There are lots of extra-circular activities on offer at Deloitte. Once a year they have a football tournament in Prague, which I took part in last year. This was a lot of fun and we had teams from all over the world participate. As well as this there are monthly team socials which include activities such as pub quizzes, dinners and softball.

The people who work at Deloitte are really friendly and they really want you to do well at Deloitte. This environment means you have the chance to learn a lot whilst having fun at work which makes it a great place to work. As well at this, the numerous social activities which take place outside of work also add to the fun.
Make sure you research all the teams and roles to make sure you pick the team which is right for you. There are so many varied teams with different specialisms so taking the time to chose the right team at the start will make working at Deloitte a lot more enjoyable for you.
