  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a daily basis, I assist my senior in drafting reports and memos that offer our clients technical tax advice. As a result, I also have to help my senior to conduct technical researches into the statutory laws and various case laws. I also perform some more administrative tasks, such as planning for meetings and drafting emails.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Transferable skills such as commercial writing skills, interpersonal skills and general research skills. Moreover, I have to study a professional qualification on the side, which is a boost to my technical research skills. I really enjoyed my job, which is more than just a job, but a once in a lifetime training opportunity.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I could not find anything better in the job market as an entry level position. It offers a decent salary, as well as a professional qualification training opportunity, namely ACA and CTA, which are completely paid for and sponsored by the firm, as well as having a work experience at one of the more prestigious organisation in the world.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is extremely well structured and informed, there is even a dedicated exam manager in every team across the firm. We were issued with schedules and timetables when we first joined the firm, which give us a very clear direction and guidance into how to grow and fulfill our ambitions.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The employer has been very supportive both financially and work wise. My employer paid for all the training and exams, leaving us with no financial liabilities to receive additional training. Moreover, when we have exams and training, my employer is willing to give us paid study leave, without giving us extra work.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • First Institution has been very supportive, giving me instructions at every stage, providing us with the support that we would need. In addition, the tutors teaching the professional qualification are very professional, and I absorb a lot of knowledge whilst attending the classes, I find the online courses very useful as well.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think it is very useful and actually essential to have this qualification in assisting in my role. This is because my role involves substantial amount of technical researches, so it is important to have the technical knowledge and qualification in order to obtain accurate and concise information for performing my role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are many activities outside of my role. Team or department wise, involves regular socials, such as drinking at the pub, or something more alternative, such as throwing darts and bowling. Whilst, working at a big firm, means there are also many other networks that offer regular gatherings and different social activities.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Deloitte has been a very responsible employer, very keen for employees to grow and develop, I feel very supported in every aspects, from career to even personal problems, as there is a dedicated consultation hotline for personal issues. The support from my team and coach have been phenomenal, they assist in every aspects.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte?
  • You have to show that you have done your research, find our more about the history and idea of the firm, then research about your role, what would you be engaging on a day to day basis, so that you can show all these quality at the interview that you are keen and curious.
