Business and Supply Chain Apprentice Review

Each day I attend my morning meetings, to see what work has been done the previous day, interacting with the manufacturing lines. I then schedule the manufacturing lines with an agreed plan and order over the components to the lines. I also help with shipping of our products and the paperwork chain that has to be followed to complete this.

At GSK, I have learnt and developed many skills such as communication, people management, time management, team work, as well as softer skills when dealing with difficult situations with colleagues. I have also had the opportunity to develop my problem solving and analytical skills through different projects while being at work.

I highly enjoy the programme, everyday is different and you learn so much through being in the workplace. You are able to visit many different areas and you get more awareness of the whole sites rather than just one area. Everyone is open to helping and can't give you enough time!

My programme is very well structured. Every other month I go up to the headquarters to complete my university work and network with different areas of the business. Furthermore, I complete my daily standard work and rotate around different roles that follow on showing me an overview of the supply chain.

I receive a large amount of support from everyone around me. My team can't help enough and I feel confident and supported enough that I can go to them with any issue. I also have a line manager to support me in each of my roles as well as a manager and Early Talent manager. Furthermore, I have a mentor to help me with any difficult situations I may find myself in and to learn about different experiences.

I have support from my tutor, however I feel there could be some more support from the university as sometimes It is difficult to get hold of someone for help and so can make some deadlines quite tight. However, there is support there and I do get answers sometimes just takes a bit longer rather than if I was at uni and could just go to my tutor.

My university work is very well suited to my different roles I take. Each section can relate and provides the theory and reasoning as to why we do those things and what can be done with each part. It enables a wider understanding to the work I am completing and they compliment each other well.

There are many extra events put on, whether that be student social events or meals out with the teams. There are regular team breakfasts and team building activities. Furthermore, there are many apprentice trips away to build upon skills and develop each individual. It is widely encouraged to network with people and build upon development. GSK is also very open to new ideas to improve this area.

GSK is a company that cares about its employees and cares about their development and wellbeing. There are many initiatives that are implemented which employees can sign up to and that employees want to sign up to. They are open to new ideas and listen to their employees. I am proud to work for GSK.
