on a day to day basis, my job consists of shadowing tradesman and carrying out jobs which I am able to do confidently. the tasks I do are things such as changing light fittings, carrying out maintenance activities on motors and other machinery. I am shown how to comply with health and safety and use permits and risk assessments on a daily basis.
during my time as an apprentice working for Glaxo Smith Kline I have gained many new skills and developed skills I already possessed. for example I have developed the ability to carry out different electrical fault finding techniques and to be able to fix these problems. in general I have learned so much about electricity and the safe working practises that are included.
I enjoy my apprenticeship very much, my job is very active which suits me as a person. I am constantly learning new things and face different challenges on a daily basis. my job can be physically and mentally challenges when facing problems that may arise out in the plant but I enjoy the challenge.
my apprenticeship is very well organised, it always allows for new opportunity's and to develop and a safe, comfortable pace but still allows me to push myself and gain new knowledge. my apprenticeship program sees that I spend 1 year at college full time and 2 doing day release, this allows a last year for just plant based activities.
my employers support me throughout my apprenticeship as much as possible, there are always ways to contact people who can help, my team leader is always through speaking to the team each morning and evening before we go home. I have a designated mentor for at work and an business partner who assists in college.
my training provider is in constant contact, arranging meets and catch ups on a monthly basis, this allows me to discuss any problems that arise and for them to also keep track of my progress, at college I have support from a business partner aswell as a onefile partner who assist me in both fields.
my qualification allows me to develop a better understanding of the challenges I may face in the workplace and allows me to find a solution. at college while studying for my qualification we learn the theory behind the things we carry out in work and the health and safety laws behind it.
there are many extra-curricular activities within my workplace, these consist of many social activites like planned evenings to allow us to bond. there are also activities in which we go out and help the community, this can consist of litter picking, painting old peoples homes, gardening and many others to help fundraise or just contribute to the community.
