  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a Trainee Engineer my role is to provide customers with telephone and internet service at their desired premises. my role also includes me repairing any faults and problems customers have with their line, offering advise with their equipment and general help and set up of their service. also assistance for my colleagues if the job requires certain skills or they just need help

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • this role requires engineers to provide great customer service as were the people customers see, we act as the face of the company so it is our duty to provide excellent customer service when we visit customers and are working on their service. working for openreach has improved my customer service skill as I interact with customers on a day to day basis

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • the overall programme is enjoyable, the actual apprenticeship teaches you various fundamental skills and if you don't have them you can gain them. the work provided is interesting and focuses on your role as a engineer, which makes it more interesting as it actually has meaning. my only criticism is having to take various photos, engineering is a lonely job so it can be difficult to get pictures when out and about

    7/10

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • the programme is very well organised and clear in what is expected of you and when it needs to be done. for example NVQ days are booked in advance and absence from work are built to allow trainees to attend NVQ days with their assessor to complete the programme work

    8/10

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • my employer supports me throughout day to day exceptionally well, engineers can call upon coaches, managers, colleagues for support and knowledge as well as visual and audio content made available via the intranet and mobile apps such as media store or toolbox. support is always available with a shadow of a doubt

    9/10

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • my assessor was brilliant in providing support all throughout me completing my qualification. the assessor was always available when you needed guidance or insight into what the qualification was asking for. I could send work for him to look over and he would critique it and provide positive feedback on areas I did well and areas for improvement

    9/10

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel the qualification helps me to perform better in my role as the work set out was related to my role as a engineer. which meant it was relevant to my everyday working environment, for example I had to explain certain processes I would have to perform in the work place

    10/10

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Unfortunately there is not, but that is of my own accord. but I do socialise and interact regularly with colleagues I have and have developed a friendship outside of work. for example I go to watch football games of my favourite team with some of my friends and we may go out for a meal

  • 9a. Would you recommend BT Group to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • its a great company to work, the job throws different situations and scenarios at you everyday. no two jobs are ever the same, and its great if you enjoy problem solving. I would recommend the job as the hours are good and flexible plus the pay is alright and there's room from progression

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT Group?
  • speak to engineers and ask for their honest opinion on the role to get their insight also do your research on the role and find out what it requires of you before applying. that's the best advice I can give when i recommended a role to others applying for the job
