I work on behalf of many service providers and ensure customer's are put into service by installing lines and repairing faults present on the network. I follow the policies and procedures to make sure everything is done correctly and to have good customer satisfaction. I work on my own so I plan my day, such as making sure all appointments are attended on time.
yes, I have learnt and still learning skills on how to maintain the network, these skills include providing phonelines for customers, repairing equipment, and next month I will be learning how to work on the underground cable network. I have also learnt the importance of health and safety and what needs to be followed through with different tasks to ensure maximum safety.
I enjoy the fact that you get different tasks throughout the day which I find stimulating and keeps my mind fresh. I also enjoy the fact that every week I am still picking up new skills and techniques to allow me to work to the best of my capabilities. There's many opportunities and facilities available to help you become the best you can be.
the organisation hasn't been too bad, training and meetings and other appointments have been very well set up. however I find communication can be better as certain aspects and policies can sometimes not get filtered through to the whole team leaving people in the dark about things. We get one team meeting once in a while so I hardly see any of my team and don't really know anybody on my team.
if I ever need support there is always someone I can call, theres the coach on demand service which is a hotline with an experienced engineer on to offer advice. also I can raise an assist and get another engineer sent out to me to offer support. Also meeting other engineers can help with networking by exchanging phone numbers and call each other for support and help.
I received a fair amount of support, I had 10 study days to complete my NVQ work in a classroom with others and the course adviser. I also had abscences book to complete an ICT exam. A lot of the NVQ required getting photos out in the field which by working on your own constantly made this very challenging taking the photos and getting people to take them for you. I feel that there should be a few days dedicated for these activities.
It helped me learn more about certain departments and policies in the company and how to do things the correct way. I got to meet more people through the course which was more people to offer me help out in the field. the qualification helped me understand how the network operates.
not that I am aware of, if there are I've never been invited to any. The only things I've been made aware of are roadshow like events or trips to the BT tower in London, other than this I have not come across many other events in the company
Yes
there are many opportunities once the apprenticeship has been completed, there are many departments within the company you can move to. You are constantly learning and picking up more skills which opens more doors and helps you progress with you career if you want it to. The benefits are decent too ie free bt broadband
revise and take notes on everything about the network, this is how I learnt and it helped me pick up on skills quicker. Read on the website about current changes in the company and new plans for the future, this will help give an insight about what to expect in later years where the company will be
