My work experience involved supporting a store manager with their day to day tasks in their store. I helped with simple tasks like checking all the staff were in and that all areas in the shop were covered. I also advised on any issues in the store such as spills and mess.
I learned so many things from this opportunity. I was given several tasks at a time so i had to learn to prioritise quickly so that I could make a decision on what job needed doing first and why. I then needed to carry out work at a very fast pace, in keeping with the business.
I really enjoyed my work experience because I was able to do so many different things and work with such a variety of different people. I was able to make decisions and felt like I played a part in assisting the manager with important day to day decisions. It was a really eye opener into the retail world.
The work experience was really well organised. I know this role has been done before so think they have been able to perfect it so that it works. I also think they are able to adapt the role for the individual as they were able to organise it around my interests.
I learnt a great deal about the company culture and in a good way. The company is well known for being able to carry out a lot of work at a great pace, efficiently and effectively. It was amazing to see this in action and how well this worked from a business perspective.
The work experience really helped me in making a decision about my career path as I was already interested in certain areas of retail and because they were able to adapt it to my interests it meant that I was able to learn more about what I thought i would like and see if this was really the case.
I was paid for this experience which was an added bonus as it meant I felt like they really valued what I could bring to the business. I was very happy to go in and put my all into it knowing that i was being paid a very fair wage for my work.
There was a few great opportunities to meet other employees and the store manager actually made this a priority on arrival that i got to know each team to understand the role they played and why altogether they needed to be working effectively within their departments to make the store a success.
Yes
I would definitely recommend this opportunity to a friend because I think it was such a valuable experience, and it was so well organised. i do not think you might get the same value out of this from another business because this business seemed to have it so well organised.
I would want to give the advice that you should definitely go for it because it is a really good opportunity and a great way of learning about a business which is so successful. If you can understand why a business is doing, well this will really help for any future endeavours as we all want to be successful.
