The experience has been beneficial and allowed me to grow my understanding of the financial sector and also to gain an overview in relation to the Aberdeen and surrounding economy. On a daily basis I work with multiple clients all within different sectors, industries and geographical regions. I am able to use transferable skills to develop client relationships.
I have learnt how to effectively manage my working day time within my third year of the scheme. Due to progressing and working on multiple clients I have to efficiently manage my time to meet deadlines set and also to manage internal and external expectations. I have also learnt a significant amount of technical knowledge through TPS (ICAS) and on the job training.
I really enjoy the programme and the experience that it has giving me over the years that I have been at Deloitte. I have been able to develop skills that I would have not been able to while at university. Also the variety of the job makes it enjoyable to learn each and every day.
The programme is well structure and you are giving the appropriate internal and external training through out the years. In addition to this you receive training updates for technical and soft skills developed. Working with teams you also develop new and improve original skills. The programme is set out over a five year period with detailed steps to achieve in each of the years.
On a daily basis we are constantly receiving support from team members, managers and directors/partners of the engagement. This can be through support in relation to work life balance and also with tasks allocated to you if have not performed this before and thus a support for continuous development.
We receive support from ICAS in respect to the classes provided for the exams that we are required to sit. In addition to this it is also easy to access the website for support or contact a member of the tutor team. Deloitte also have an ICAS representative and therefore makes the communication link very effective.
The exams and classes we are required to sit aid with technical knowledge that is very transferable. You learn accounting technical knowledge that aids you through day to day activities at work and also deepens your understanding of the process and work that is required to meet the audit standards.
Yes there is a social committee that organises office wide events that allows you to interact with colleagues from other teams and also other departments within the Aberdeen office. Further to this there are often ICAS related events that are brilliant to be involved in to meet other young professionals.
Yes
I would recommend it due to the learning and development opportunities. You are giving appropriate responsibilities within the team and also a chance to progress internally through the scheme and training courses along with the external accounting qualification. This has given amazing experience on the job as well as technical knowledge.
I would suggest anyone applying to be confident in applying and ready for a challenging experience however, also a very enjoyable and a brilliant learning opportunity. Be yourself through out the application process and under stand the potential for development and learning and also take on board comments received as feedback.
