My daily role within my apprenticeship requires me to take on and learn new ways of diagnosing problems on the network. I work on Private Circuit Repair, so I tend to work on traffic lights, copper cables and anything privately owned. I shadow team members learning what I can from day to day.
I have learnt an abundance of skills since starting my apprenticeship. Many of which being problem solving. Since starting at BT my problem solving has improved dramatically, something I struggled with before joining BT. I have also learnt communicational, time managing and social skills also. I am excited about learning more.
I very much enjoy my job at BT. the culture is very professional here, something I wanted since leaving school. I enjoy having a new challenge new day and I feel that the apprenticeship programme really feeds my needs from a career perspective. I am very excited about my career here.
I would say it is inconsistently structured. The overall structure of placement is good and consistent, however within the micro side of things in teams there is little to no training, meaning that eventually I can only do so much without adequate training. I would like to see more training.
I would say support needs to be improved. I see little to no support for things that are stressed and anxiety related, something I am a sufferer of. I would like to see BT improve their policies on time off for Stress and Anxiety related issues. I would like to see more help.
I would say the support from the Uni is on average, we have to do most of it ourselves and help other colleagues out. From the coordinators there is little interaction, and some answers they want you to find out yourself to questions you have asked? Would like to see an improvement.
The network overview part of my degree is brilliant in helping me understand the overall jist of my day role. The platforms is also good for context in which systems operate in a network perspective. Overall the degree I would say benefits me in my day role very much so.
I volunteer at local schools when I can and I would say I do try and get involved where be. I enjoy physical activities and go to the gym a lot with colleagues from work. BT I would say provides a very good platform for people to network efficiently and meet people.
Yes
It's a brilliant company to work for and offers one of the best if not the best programme for network/IT/cyber security apprenticeships in England. If you enjoy technology and learning new things about the subject, whilst earning a salary. Then BT is definitely for you, equipping you with skills for a brilliant start to your career.
Be yourself, Don't try an be something you're not. Go into the interview as relaxed as you can as it really is not like you think an interview is. If you are really that passionate, express it because at the end of the day, passion and drive are the two main things they are concerned about.
