My role as a dual skilled maintenance engineer envoles completing reactive and pro active maintenance repairs to the factory machinery. This involves planned repairs and maintenance on machines and plant services. It can also involve helping with tasks along side the team leaders to improve processes. The day is often very busy.
I have developed my skill of time management deeply, as often the repairs to machinery are unplanned and the machines need to be running again fast so that he factory can resume full operation. As time is money. I have also learnt the new skill of thinking outside the box and looking at problems from all angles.
I enjoy the programme that I am on fully. I think that it is one of the best apprenticeships available right now. It’s a great working environment and the college that I attend is great. The facilities are really good. As well as this it’s nice to get a hire car for travel.
I think that the programme is very well structured. At the start of the apprenticeship I was told about what I was going to learn and when. I was also informed on how the end point assessment worked and all of the exams and course work was graded. It’s structured very well
I feel that I get full support from my employer. They are often keen to see how my progress is going. The employer is also keen to see how they can help with the work that I have been set at college. They are looking at ways they can help to improve my work.
I believe that the college (Birmingham metropolitan college) provides full support to me as a student. They provide reviews on progress every 6 weeks. This is really helpful to see that I am on track and how I can improve my work and apply myself more and more in both practical and class room lessons.
The Training that I am recievibg from my provider helps me perform a great deal better in my role. With providing me with knowledge and hands on practice and skill training to help me do the job better back at work. It’s good to have a hands off and hands on balance.
Yes. There’s a football team at work at which we can get involved in. But other than that, not so much. Our work does have a cycle to work scheme which is an incentive to do exercise in a good way. But there could be more extra activities to get involved with
Yes
They are keen to provide you with full training and help you in any way possible. They are keen for you to do well and will push you in the right direction. They pay well and are keen that you stay with the company. You are treated very well in all areas.
I would say Don’t hesitate and apply right away. I would advise them to been a keen learner and ready to work and get stuck in as that’s what they are looking for. They have to be a good team player and excited to learn new things and progress in the company.
