maintenance engineering - role includes helping the other engineers on my particular shift with breakdowns on machines as well as being given the responsibility to solve problems of my own, machines being repaired include portion slicers, vacuum sealing machines, conveyors and mincers as well as others, the type of breakdowns very in difficulty, there are also many site services jobs which ensure the well being of the factory.
yes i have learnt skills such as knowing how to approach different problems on my own and being able to solve them, these can be mechanical or electrical, working as part of a team and delegating tasks efficiently so as to keep breakdown time at an absolute minimum, also learned how to use a variety of tools.
I enjoy the program very much as the program enables me to experience different problems from day to day and allows me to learn different things which i did not know with each and every problem i come across, the satisfaction of completing a job is also a source for motivation when attempting to solve problems.
the program is reasonably structured as there are 6 week blocks in which i go to college 3 times a year these enable me to learn skills at college and then apply the knowledge to a work environment. the structuring at work could be better so that i can keep learning more.
i receive a reasonable amount of help and support from my employer, my employer always answers any questions or queries i may have and provides me with learning opportunities to better myself, the employer could have a slightly more organised structure so that i can expect to see what i will be learning on a day to day basis.
i receive a good amount of support from the provider as they give me plenty of help regarding the knowledge i need to acquire to help me in the work place. the communication however between the employer and the college can also be poor and the grade boundaries for certain subjects and exams are vague.
the qualification helps a lot in the respect that the fundamentals are learnt however the thing that helps most in this regard is the on site training that i receive, the qualification helps in understanding the basic level required to be a maintenance engineer. more relevant topics such as examining pumps and motors would help.
there are very few extra curricular activities that are offered from my work place as i have never been to one, this can be attributed to very high work demands and shifts which do not support this type of opportunity in the workplace. the workplace could have sports opportunities which would help the staff.
Yes
tulip is a brilliant company to work for as it provides a very pressure filled work environment which help to get better experience.
