Chartered Management Degree Apprentice Review

I have specialised in a Category Management role and therefore it involves providing advice on the retailers strategy and ranging decisions. This involves collaborating with them, and building relationships in order to influence effectively. It can also involve tracking seasons such as Easter to understand how different reatilers are performing.

Through my degree studies i have developed new skills in critical evaluation and understanding management strategies. At the workplace, I have gained skills in negotiation during my sales placements, presenting in front of large audiences and data analysis skills through my current role. i have also gained essential skills in relationship building.

I enjoy my programme as it offers a large amouont of variety. It allowed me to spend 6 months in 4 different areas of the business so that i could understand which area suited me best before specialising. Additionally, I have a good balance of work/study which allows me to apply each way.

The rotations are well managed and throughout the whole programme my placements have been suitably well managed. Unfortunately sometimes the study element is not always best communicated and therefore can become confusing or last minute. Dependent on functionn and line manager, the structure can vary based on preference, but my experience has been very good.

From my line manager I recieve a good level of support as he is aligned to what i am doing and is willing to give me adequate time to balance everything. I also have work based mentors who have been very beneficial. Wider support can be varied and doesn't always feel the strongest.

Sheffield Hallam are very supportive in our studies whilst we are with them. Following this, feedback can be varied which can sometimes be difficult. Despite this, they have created some support resources such as Studiosity to help develop our writing which have substantially improved my work and i continue to use.

My qualification does have some tranferable skills, however i feel as though i more use my practical work to influence my degree as the skills can be transferred, and the knowledge can make my quality of writing better. Despite this, some models i have been able to apply, and as a whole i can see the benefit.

Nestle has a good social presence, such as encouraging presence as networking events such as Grocery Aid balls or conferences. These have expanded my knowledge, but have also allowed me to create networks. There is also opportunities to be involved in charity activities, and groups within the organisation such as Diversity and Inclusion.

They are a really supportive employer and encourage you to get involved with a range of activities. I feel fully supported on my career journey and progression, and find the reward and recognition very stimulating for the role I play in the organisation. The culture is friendly, and supportive and I can also feel like I can truely be myself.
