I am a developer on the ServiceNow platform which requires me to be involved in the creation of new demand and applications that the company uses on the platform. I will take requests from people inside the company and look at ways to develop what they want and role it out to the company for public use. I also look at a project where by I am automating the testing that is taking place in the company using a system to develop an automated system so nobody needs to manually test again.
I have learnt many new skills with a new set of technical knowledge of the current platform that the company uses and how this is beneficial to the organisation. I have learnt new skills and advanced my knowledge of Javascript which comes into play with the development work that i do. I have been able to advance my social skills with a high volume of presentations and delivery of information to large teams.
I thoroughly enjoy my programme it is giving me a great opportunity to enhance my learning in the workplace whilst i continue with my education path in the most efficient way possible. It is giving me many opportunities to see many areas of the business for me to decide which part of the company is best for me to work in by the time that I finish my course and want to look at securing a permanent role.
The programme's structure is a little bit unclear at times as we rotate around the company we have not been given a clear structure as to how we are supposed to do this and there has been little input from our support staff. This has meant we have relied on other apprentices and have been somewhat unsure how to proceed further.
I receive plenty of support from my employer I am given 3 points of contact at 3 different levels in the business to help talk to me regarding any concerns i might have. We are given a "buddy" "mentor" and "manager" so that we can discuss are issues with a team tasks or daily work with our manager. We could talk more broadly about the business and the apprenticeship scheme with our mentor who can walk us through the best course of action. We are also given a buddy to be able to have regular catch ups with to ensure we are happy and everything is working well. So that we have a point of contact for any issue that we get.
We are given a lot of support regarding our qualifications the university gives us a designated member of staff who talks to us about anything to do with university life or work. In addition we have full contact with the uni lecturers regarding each unit if we need any help.
I feel that our qualification is based around our working environment quite well as the programme was set up side by side so the university work is focused around what we can do at work and what our employers think is good for us to learn. In addition we also have a choice of specialisations for our degree based on the career path we want to take. Such as specialising in a really technical role or business area based on the job that we want to go for.
Yes there are many different extra curricular activities to be involved in we have a charity team that people are able to join to help us continue to raise money for charity. We also have a local gym with classes that people go to as well as people have sports clubs that people do in certain times of the year.
Yes
The culture in the company is extremely supportive and allows us to grow without the fear of failure or making a mistake. They also allow us to experience different areas of the business in order to give us the best understanding of the company and working life before we commit to any path or job. They give us the freedom to feel like full members of the team to ensure we are working to our best capabilities.
That the company is not overly obsessed with your grades so try and show of your personality and be honest about yourself. You need to be comfortable to work as a team and be able to help others but also have your own opinions that you can build from and show your initiative.
