My role is based in the R&DSC Sourcing department and my primary focus is to support each cluster, Drug Substance, Drug Product, PLD, Analytical, Intelligent Pharma & Devices and Comparators in the outsourcing activities for the entire project portfolio on behalf of Pharm Sci and PTD. Duties include: • Electronic archiving and management of contracts using an online system called iSave. • Production of contract management data on a monthly basis using Echo software. • Creating and managing Purchase Orders, invoicing issues and resolving payment queries to support projects. • Internal and external engagement with stakeholders when drafting and negotiating a range of contracts. • Supporting continuous improvement (LEAN) projects across Sourcing.
• Able to use own initiative and work well under pressure, ensuring deadlines are met and no projects delayed. • Flexibility to work on my own or as part of a team whilst maintaining enthusiasm and commitment to each project. • Extensive written and verbal communication skills enabling successful collaboration with all colleagues in the organisation regardless of position. • Pragmatic in my approach to tasks. • Ability to see things from different angles and problem solve accordingly. • Demonstrable leadership and coaching skills enabling me to lead numerous projects, transferring learning and good practice with colleagues.
My role as a Sourcing Apprentice has given me invaluable experience in the drafting and negotiating process of contracts and managing internal and external stakeholders, managing the payments of suppliers and resolving invoicing issues and working on continuous improvement projects. The apprenticeship suited my preferred hands on learning style. Any learning from the qualification could be applied and developed through day to day work activities.
The AstraZeneca apprenticeship scheme is well organised and structured across the organisation with a generous support network and nurturing environment to learn and develop. The support network for the weekly learning sessions to complete the degree have now been well established and students are able to able to complete effectively, asking questions where possible to assist learning.
AstraZeneca allocate a day a week to focus on university learning activities and encourage students to network in all areas of the organisation. Each employee is eager to help and answer any questions you may have, creating a friendly and comfortable environment. AstraZeneca proactively assist in resolving and issues or problems that may occur.
Tutors are friendly and encourage questions via email and through webinars to clarify any issues or concerns that develop throughout the course. As this is a newly established course, there is some confusion at points where clarity is required from tutors. This is often resolved and students are provided with a clear direction for learning.
The content of the course is very interesting and in the majority of cases can be applied to your day to day job. There have been instances where i have been able to recall some information to benefit other existing employees of the organisation to fulfil a task effectively and efficiently.
There are numerous sports teams and networking events in which all apprentices are encouraged to get involved in. There is also an opportunity to attend external conferences and networking opportunities to develop learning and knowledge of the industry, presenting findings to other employees on return so that all are able to benefit.
