Engineering apprenticeship Review

My role is to assist the other engineers at work and help fix any machinery that breaks down. To carry out maintenance and services on the machines. I help out with site services. Keeping the workshop tidy. the apprenticeship lasts 3-4 years and I hope to complete this and be a qualified engineer.

I have learnt new skills with bench, fitting, lathes, and milling machines. I have also developed my skills with the bench fitting because I am learning the proper techniques of how to do each part. Before starting college, I had never used a lathe before so I have learnt new skills on that

So far I am enjoying the apprenticeship, I am learning new skills and knowledge at college. I am also enjoying my experience in the work place. I get on well with all the lads aswell which is also a bonus. The tutors are also very helpful and always answer any questions I ask.

I think the program is quite organised, it’s useless having block release at college because there is so much to learn. It’s much easier than doing day release. The teachers seem to know how the next few years are going to plan out which is a good sign

I receive a lot of support from my employer, my managers and team leaders are always asking how I am getting on. They also help me fill out any college paperwork I need to complete. They always help me in the factory at work and always offer me support when working.

So far I have received a lot of support from the college. They have helped me out if I have been struggling in class and give me useful tips when doing the practical work. They always give us tips on how to make out work better and more presentable. H

Studying engineering at college and doing the practical work, becomes uselful at work because you can use the new skills and knowledge to take back to your workplace. Once I’m qualfied, I’ll be multi skilled which is also a bonus because I will know both mechanics and electronics which I can use in the workplace.

Personal I have no seen any extra curricular activities at work, I have no gone out my way to look because I do lots of sports outside of work., I like the keep my personal life and worklife balanced. I do plenty of other activities outside the work place. D

I would recommend tulip to a friend because it is a great company to work for, there is plenty to learn within engineering and once you are qualified, you have a career set up for life. The apprenticeship program is very good because you gain work experience while also learning at college

I would advise anyone joining to work hard, it is not an easy apprenticeship to pass and it’s takes a lot of time and effort. You need to study at work, college and even at home. You have to be able to stay away from home for several weeks a year, you need to enjoy it.
