Multi-Skilled Engineer Review

My Role as an Apprentice Maintenance Engineer is to shadow and learn from other engineers as we attend breakdowns and carry out general maintenance. It's not rare to be handed over a project to of which It is my responsibility to complete and learn from. All work must be carried out safely and efficiently.

I've learnt many new skills coming into this apprenticeship due to having very little/Limited experience. I have developed my bench work skills, Lathe skills and I am currently working on my milling. There is a lot more to come in regards of materials science which is interesting and welding.

I am enjoying it very much, there is a lot of work to take in however it is all linked to the work I will be carrying out as an engineer and will be vital throughout my whole life. You meet some great people who have the same interests as yourself and you are able to turn to any of your peers if you feel stuck.

I've heard feedback from all the Engineering Apprentices on my course saying how unorganised there apprenticeship is however after talking to them about how my apprenticeship is going in my year it appears that the College have upped their game. This means that the college is acting upon feedback.

I get enough support from my employer to ensure that anything I'm stuck with I get a better understanding, I've been passed multiple projects in the past that have helped me a lot! even the little projects that are passed to me I am able to utilise the time to earn knowledge that will be beneficial to me and the company.

The Training providers are very good they all know what they are talking about and are not afraid to probe deeper into topics and learn along with nus students. It can be great fun. The teachers are all approachable and are all willing to help out at any given time.

My Units are all designed specifically to better myself in the job role at work, more specifically Bench work and materials science. I am looking forward to a good couple of units that will boost my efficiency in my job role at Tulip for example Welding (save money and Fun) and the electrical unit.

Every know and then at my site they host charity football matches, we have our own social networking site 'Yammer' which we employees are able to follow news about our sites and see the achievements being made. This can be a real good boost of confidence knowing that your achievements are being recognised.
