  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a research scientist and that can include running assays, preparing buffers and performing analyses on the data produced, as well as presenting my findings in group meetings. I also attend talks and other events related to my work where possible, most provided by the company itself on a regular basis

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, I have learnt a lot of new information about subjects that I previously only had a faint idea about such as data integrity and working under an NDA. I have also learnt a lot about using new equipment such as centrifuges, and also my general; lab skills have improved greatly

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I do really enjoy my programme. I find that it challenges me, which is what I want out of any form of education that I am in. I really enjoy the whole nature of my work as well, just as a scientist in general and I find it very exciting to be on the front line of medical research

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think my programme is quite well structured. I find that I know what I am doing almost all the time and the organisation is done very well. The structure of the degree and my work is always explained to me in a very clear manner and leaves nothing in doubt

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I find that I don't need all that much support from my employer, but I am sure that if I needed it, I could easily obtain it as everyone at my place of work is very helpful and knowledgeable, so I could just ask if I needed help, and if the person who I asked couldn't help me, then they would direct me to someone who could

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel like it's really useful for me in my job as it gives me the background information that I need to understand what I am doing in the lab. it also helps me understand what other people are saying in group meetings better as sometimes it can be a little hard to understand

  • 9a. Would you recommend GSK to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I just find it fascinating to work here and there is just something about it that makes me think that this is perfect for me and it's what I want to do and if I can help someone lese find that thing they want to do at GSK then I would definitely recommend it.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to GSK?
  • emphasise your scientific nature, and always put 100% into what you are doing. there are not a lot of places for the number of people applying, and even if you don't get it the first time, you always get feedback, so apply again and don't give up if you know that's what you want to do
