The job role is highly varied and therefore no day is the same. I will usually visit client sites and work within a small team to ensure that the financial statements being produced by the company are true and fair. Further, I will usually have a meeting of two thoughout the day.
I have learnt many skills whilst enrolled on my apprenticeship at Deloitte. Both soft skills like the ability to work well in a team and communicate your point of view effectively. In addition to the knowledge based skills, e.g. understanding of the financial standards and procedures which legally need to be followed.
I thoroughly enjoy my job. It is not what I expected, in that I was expecting to be walking into an office job where I commutes to the same place each day and worked within the same teams. This was not the case. I get to travel all around the midlands and meet many new people on a weekly basis
The programme is as well organised as possible. It is always going to be tricky for the schedulers at Deloitte and the schedulers at BPP to work in-line with each other so there are a few hiccups but on a whole the programme is well organised and enables me to get the most out of the experiences I am open to
I receive a fair amount of support from my employer. The level of support has reduced over the years I have been at Deloitte, but this is simply because I know understand the process and I am now able to manage myself and my time better, which is a skill which the new apprentices are not expected to have
BPP will be in contact with us on a half yearly basis to have a quick catch up and address any issues and concerns which we have with the programme. Further, if there was something specific I wanted to discuss then I have access to both an email and phone number so can contact them whenever required
The qualification which I am gaining through BPP is essential to my role within Deloitte. My knowledge of accounting and auditing is expanding rapidly which allows me to advise clients on the correct accounting methods and policies to ensure that their accounts meet the requirements of the accounting standards and legal requirements
There are extra curricular activities. Both internal to Deloitte and with external accounting firms within Birmingham. These include work social events e.g. bowling and pizza making, to larger events including an annual ball for all trainee accountants within the Birmingham area. Sports wise there are inter firm sports on a regular basis
Yes
I would recommend Deloitte to a friend because it is a genuinely nice company to work for, where the managers and senior members of the firm care about your development and welfare. They have all been through the process of getting their qualification and working before so know it can be challenging at times, so will help you though
Be yourself, Deloitte are not looking for the cleverest people or the people who already know everything about audit and accounting. They are looking for genuine people who have the ability and openness to learn new skills and the drive to do well in whatever they are challenged with in day to day life and work
