  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I assist in managing the control room in a busy, seasonal warehouse environment. This includes planning the pick face layout in the racking, planning the outbound workload, MI, Bookings, Helpdesk, and a variety of other things. I am in charge of a small team of supervisors and colleagues and responsible for making sure their hours are recorded correctly for pay. The amazing thing is that I get the best of both worlds with the chance to develop my people management and also the administrative side of the management world.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I've become a lot more confident in terms of delivering briefings or general talks to my team and motivating them for day-to-day duties. I've also had exposure to a lot of things that I wouldn't usually, such as finance. When I first began I thought my excel skills were good. I was wrong, I've been shown how to achieve a plethora of amazing things using excel and am so much better than I was before!

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my program because of the variety of content. It's amazing that one day I can be leading a project to help my business and the next I can be managing a team on the shop floor to hit their KPIs. The time is really flying by at work and I'm learning so many useful things for my future.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The company has been so supportive of me through my apprenticeship. My direct manager AND senior management are giving me so many opportunities to show what I can do, which helps in building my confidence and getting my name out there in the wider business. I do some work and research at home but I get given plenty of time at work to this as well which is fantastic.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider do extra visits when necessary which makes me feel really valued. The amount of resources they have to help me through is mindblowing. I'm so impressed by the level of support I'm getting and I feel like I can achieve so much now. When not on site my trainer contacts me often by phone and email so I never feel alone with this.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My training provider has given me so many tools to be at my best. I'm infinately more confident than I was before my course started and have so many new skills. In my role I especially need good knowledge of excel spreadsheets and that's something I've been able to enhance to quite an advanced level now.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I get involved in a wide range of extra-curricular activities at work. These include charity work, team building exercises and annual sports day organisation. My company cares a lot about charity so I get many opportunities to volunteer for charity work such as the BBC children in need call centre. I'm also on the charity committee. I regularly organise team building events, most recently a laser tag fun day.
