I'm a 1st year mechanic apprentice. This means on a daily basis I help my mentor carry out multiple tasks including services or changing brakes etc. But also as an apprentice I have to help to tidy up every now and again to ensure the workshop is clean and tidy
I have learnt multiple new skills during my apprenticeship including how to change brake pad etc but I have also developed these skills later on to make it as time efficient as possible or to make sure I do it the right/easiest way while also ensuring the job is done correctly.
I thoroughly enjoy the program as instead of learning stuff at college 1 day a week I go to college for 1 week every 2 months where we will focus on a specific topic and ensure we all have a good understanding. I also enjoy being at work as its a good crack but we still get on with the job at hand.
My programme is very organised. At the start of the programme I was given a sheet with my college dates and my work always ensures I have transport to and from the hotel/college also every three months the company gets someone to come out and make sure there is no problems.
I receive alot of support of my employer. He always makes sure that I'm enjoying the apprenticeship and asks if there's anything he can do to make it better. Also he makes sure that I do work and not just stand there and look so that also helps.
My training provider helps alot as every time I'm at college before I leave he makes sure that I fully understand everything and asks if there is anything he can do to make it easier or if I need anything. Also my mentor also helps and makes sure I understand everything.
My qualification helps me perform better in my role as it gives me something to work towards to achieve and it also sets me targets that I will have to learn in order to get the qualification I need to keep doing my job. Also it shows that you achieve something at the end.
There are extra curricular things that I could part take in at my work however I'm usually busy doing my own things such as rugby when these extra curricular activities are taking place but if I am not busy at the time ithey take place then I will go along.
Yes
I would suggest this company to a friend because I enjoy the role and the atmosphere the company has so if I thought that there was anyone who was looking for work In the same job type as me I would recommend it as I think they would enjoy it.
The advice I would give to others applying at imperial commercials is to make sure you are definitely interested in this sort of work and if you are and you do get a interview to make sure they show the employer that they are very interested and then hope the employer sees this.
