  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in the Listed Business Tax department so I help on tax issues with listed companies. This can vary from admin roles to technical work. A lot of work can involve printing or editing a powerpoint. But if you keep asking for work then you can get your hands around a variety.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt technical tax work revolving around International tax matters including CIR and CFC mainly. I have really enhanced my powerpoint skills as I spend a lot of time editing and moving the slides prepared for a client around. I have also enhanced my excel skills as I use them frequently

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy my programme as I get a variety of different work and get to work with a variety of different people because there is little structure in the work you can get involved in so it enables you to really branch out and find what you want to do.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure is in place but the communication sometimes struggles to filter down to my level. I often end up chasing for information about college/exam dates. This can be really frustrating. We also have exams that are booked for us which are after an exam which they knowledge is also used for.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The team are very understanding the you may need to set aside time to revise as they know your job is on the line if you fail. But they will not openly tell you to book in time in your diary, this will be left to you to sort for yourself.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Our Tutor is available by email/phone all the time so we always have someone to reach out to. We are in college sporadically and the courses are very intense so you have to be prepared for the day but if you are not in college you really need to focus on your own.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The training has really expanded my knowledge of tax but the majority of it I have not yet used in my day to day work as I have focused on personal tax in my studies and I work in corporate tax. However when I start studying for the next exam this will change
