I work within tax and this is a role that can be quite varied from day-to-day ranging from complying with legislation to consulting with clients on tax matters. From the first few weeks of joining the firm you realise that you have quite a lot of responsibility and interact with colleagues and clients who are more senior than yourself. The projects I work on vary in length from a few days up to four or five months.
Most definitely! I have been studying for the ACA qualification, therefore I have developed technical knowledge from completing the exams. Along with attending internal and external training courses/days I have gained a broader knowledge of the profession and industry. The most valuable skills I have learnt and developed have come from the day-to-day life in the office. The interpersonal skills I have developed from meeting many different people have been invaluable.
I really do enjoy the programme. The work is enjoyable and you feel empowered which makes the job a lot more fun for me. My team are great, they are there to support you whenever I have a question or concern. The culture of the firm is good too, there is always a good atmosphere in the office and the people are very friendly.
The higher apprentice programme is very well structured. I had an initial one week induction when I first joined the firm. This was to provide an overall background of what was ahead. There has been a lot of support available to me throughout the programme, from the tutors at college to the buddy I was assigned when I joined the firm. The team I work in is willing to take ideas from people of all grades and therefore I have been involved in tasks which I didn't expect to be involved in so early on in my career at PwC which has definitely helped my development.
There is a lot of support available at the firm. Everyone that joins gets assigned to a buddy who is there to help answer any general questions and concerns you may have. There is also a career coach who is responsible for supporting you in your career. I meet with mine monthly to have a catch up and discuss how work has been looking backwards and also how I can develop moving forwards. There are many more support options available such as HR team, managers in the team etc.
I receive quite a lot of support when studying for my exams. Initially we have our tutors at Kaplan who are supportive and available outside of college hours should I have any questions. As well as this PwC have various methods of internal support should it be needed. I've been fortunate enough to not require this yet but it is there if I do need to in the future.
The ACA exams which I am studying towards help in my day-to-day role as they provide me with a better understanding of accounting and the general business environment. As I continue with the exams I expect them to become more relevant and useful to my day-to-day role and future career within PwC.
Yes there are many extra-curricular activities to get involved in at PwC. There is an app that we are able to download and it has many activities that are available to sign up for. These range from networking events to sports teams and socials. As well is this we have team socials quite frequently too.
Yes
PwC is a good firm to work for as it provides great opportunities to further your knowledge and work with some of the biggest companies in the world. As well as this the work that PwC do is very interesting but more importantly the people you work with are great and very friendly.
I would advise anyone thinking about applying, to definitely apply. The recruitment process is quite thorough which means that you are able to learn a lot about yourself during the process. For me the assessment day was the most important part of the process as you are being judged against other people applying for similar roles. It was at the assessment day I learnt the most about myself. Fortunately I was successful in applying, however even if I had been unsuccessful I would have looked back at the assessment day as a steep learning curve.
