One skill that is highly valued in this industry is knowledge of excel. When I started I had a basic knowledge such as shortcuts and a vlookup. Around 4 months I get sent on a course to improve my excel skills and now I'm able to perform If statements and potentially script a macro. Skills gained would be confidence and communication. when answering a call at first you are nervous but after a while you build a relationship and it becomes easier to communicate.
This programme would be enjoyable for someone who is looking to develop new skills that are applicable to not only work but everyday life. There are many areas in this programme which means that there is always something new to learn. The culture of the firm itself makes you feel welcome and really gives you the most positive working environment making the programme even more enjoyable.
The programme starts with a week induction which allows you to network with those who are also on the programme. You are also obliged to complete mandatory training which will guide you in completing the programme. You are entitled to 20% study time a week, which really helps towards the work life/ study time balance.
There are regular training sessions put on for those on the programme. Also, you are provided a mentor from the previous years programme, you will meet with this mentor every month and they will give some advice and tell you where you should be within the programme and how to progress further. If you have an issue that you want to raise the platforms are there for you to raise any queries and you can usually expect a rapid response from HR.
Fitch put on regular workshops for those on the programme. These can be to improve excel skills or to have a tutor go over the qualification that you are working towards. You are also provided with an online portal and phone application which are really useful as they contain past exam questions and tutor videos that you can use at any time of the day.
The qualification consists of 3 exams. The first exam gives you a foundation of the whole financial industry, including its products, agents and regulators. Which is vital to anyone who is working in the industry The second exam is based on UK Regulations which again is key to have for an individual who is working in the financial industry. The 3rd exam you can pick and make it more specific to your job role. If you complete the qualification then you are most likely going to be able to do a better a job as you can contribute more and your foundations will be greater.
There is an on site fully equipped gym at the office. There is some social committees even within the programme you can join the apprentice committee . Every quarter there will be a town hall which will be a review of the previous quarter and will be followed by networking drinks.

An obvious reason would be because it is one of the biggest investment banks globally. UBS also has an objective to drive excellence and I feel that this is accomplished as it is at the core of everyone that works around you. There is also a high possibility that once the programme is completed you could find full time employment.
1. Make sure you have knowledge of the financial system as a whole 2. Research the history of UBS (what are the three keys?, etc) 3. Keep on top of the news - having this understanding shows interest in the area you apply to. 4. Know what skills are required for the area you are looking to go into.
