My days consist of the preparation of management accounts and statutory financial statements. I also spend time helping others with making changes to accounts and preparing iXBRL tagged accounts. Occasionally I assist in the preparation of Limited liability partnership tax returns and VAT Returns depending on how busy the period is.
Whilst working here I have developed my technical skills, whether it be improving my computing skills on software such as caseware and onesource or my accounting skills needed for the job such as debits and credits and preparing ETB's. I have also developed my team working skills due to most jobs being done within a team.
I have really enjoyed the days that I have worked here. Each day consists of many variants of work meaning I don't get tied down on one job so get to experience many things and keep improving my skills. The people i work with are also very freindly and make the job enjoyable to be at.
Kaplan have provided a very well organised structure allowing us to prepare in advance for our exams alongside our work. A timetable was sent early in the year and updated throughout so we always was kept up to date on the next steps in our programme. We are also emailed and called about any changes to our college days.
There are many options of support from our employer, some of these are Career Coaches, buddies, champions, programme manager. These all provide support in separate ways whether its to help with software which we prepare our accounts with, help with settle in to the work place or helping with study for our exams.
We have been provided a mentor from Kalpan who has continuously emailed and called us throughout the year to see how we are doing and provide help if necessary. We are also provided a teacher in two forms when we are studying, an online tutor who teaches through skype calls and teachers at Kaplan who teach classes and provide help outside of school time.
Due to my qualification being related to accounting it has greatly helped develop my understanding of the role I play and also helped me improve my skills and become more efficient with the preparation of the statutory financial statements and management accounts which I produce. It has aldo helped me increase my knowlege on other sectors such as tax so I can volunteer to help with tax related jobs.
Due to my office being one of the smaller ones in the company, there are few opportunities for sports teams however we have a social club which lets us book events for the team to go to such as casino nights or chocolate tasting sessions. There are also company gatherings during the year which allow people from different teams to meet up and network.
Yes
I believe that it is a great place to work as it provides a path to a great job and provides many skills as well as paying generously for the grade I work at. Its also a great pathway for getting your accounting qualification as they pay for your exams and help with any studying for them.
One tip would be to just be yourself, the team is the most important part of working here so being yourself in the interview will be a big help. Another tip is to work hard when you arrive because first impressions count and it will be very hard to change them.
