I look after my teams servers running on AIX and Linux. Using new and exciting tools like Ansible to create automation. This job can involve reacting to and fixing incidents, implementing changes, for example patching servers when a patch is available. The role also involves a lot of collaboration with other teams.
I have learnt a great deal of new skills including shell scripting, working with AIX Linux, Powershell and Ansible as well as developing my people skills, in my role I work very closely with lots of other teams each with lots of people within them, including teams in other areas of the world
I have really enjoyed working here at Accenture and have also enjoyed my education. Learning new and exciting technologies is not just useful for my career development but is also interesting. The workshops I attend at QA are useful and enjoyable and we are made to feel very comfortable the entire time.
The program could be structured better and still needs some fine-tuning, at times when I first joined the program it felt very hurried as if everything had been prepared and planned out late. Despite this, I still feel secure and confident that everything is going well and I know what my role is.
I receive a great deal of support from my employer, they give me 20% of my work hours as study time so I have plenty of time to learn, work on assignments and revise for exams. I am also aware that if I needed even more time and support it would be provided to me.
There isn't a huge amount of support from my training provider, but since the program doesn't include me going into university each week it can be difficult to offer support remotely. QA do however provide me with a skills coach who is someone I can go to with any issues I have
In all honesty the qualification is not the main attraction for the job I applied for and obtained. The main thing for me is experience within a company like Accenture and learning from the intelligent people working here. The degree is the cherry on top of course and is very important and I have no doubt that everything I learn during my studies will be incredibly useful once I have graduated.
Yes, we have a team that organizes charity, social and communications events within our office and I recently worked with them to organize a charity bake sale with our office and our neighboring offices too, we are also given time off to attend charity events and to raise money for various charities
Yes
Accenture is an excellent company to work for and by joining the apprenticeship you aren't only ensuring that you will learn from lecturers with the training provider but also have the opportunity to learn from very intelligent and experienced people at Accenture who are at the forefront of technology.
Be confident and put yourself out there, with any apprenticeship, the employer shouldn't expect you to have all the answers but instead that you are willing to learn them, they are looking for passion within the field and want you to want to learn from them, not join the company and immediately start solving problems.
