The role is dependant on the client and project. Currently I am leading a reporting workstream, building reports for human resources in a banking client. Day to day tasks evolve through the project from fulfilling a Business Analyst role and gathering requirements, to designing and building the system and then testing and deploying the system.
I have learnt an extrodinary amount from in university broadening my understanding of the modern IT landscape while studying topics such as Artificial Intelligence, the Internet of Things, Data Science, Business Strategy and much more. At work I have also had the opportunity to undertake training in SAP products and gain certifications.
The programme has its ups and downs mainly due to the work load where during deadline periods balancing work and university is a struggle. However overall I have been incredibly luck in the programme working across industries like Media and Entertainment and Financial Service in major clients. I would rate the overall expereince highly
Our group that started the apprenticeship was one of the first so the structure has not been the best at times. One of the main issues is the scheduling of studying versus work which has been poor. However it does enable you to take initiative and manage your time and your project.
Very little, our employer is very large which means apprentices often get put in scenarios where their team don't understand the requirements for the apprenticeship and don't allow enough time to complete work. There are options to reach out for help, however much of this should be handled by employer especially where new apprentice may not feel they have a choice in the work they are asked to complete.
Support is sufficeint but minimal, we have 4 days of workshops plus online materials per module. This means if holidays, illness or priority work disrupt a module it can be extremely hard to get back on track without sacrificing any sort of work/life balance. It has approved over the years however is not the best.
The general understanding helps a lot during conversations with clients and during daily work. However there are some modules which have little to no crossover with day to day work. Overall it has been beneficial to my work and has helped me expand what I am capable of doing at work. For instance I helped with some web development in my first year although it was not my primary role due to the apprenticeship learnings.
There are many, each project has a team which volunteers to organise events and activities. In the last 4 years I have been a part of this team and participated in many events such as fundraising, a climbing club, numerous networking events. There is absolutely no lack of events at my employers
Yes
I have worked here for close to 5 years and have been lucky enough to always work with brilliant people who earnestly support their colleagues in their development, day to day work and more. I have recommended my employer to many people already with some that have since joined the company.
Be knowledgable about the current technology landscape, and understand what technologies are disrupting companies and how clients can benefit from implementing these technologies. Ensure you are ready to be a team player, take initiative and be proactive in asking questions. If you know anyone at the employee try to get a recommendation which often boosts you to the top of the CV pile
