i come in and tidy the workshop for part of the morning until it is in an safe mannerto work in, i then go see my workshop controller to get a job or assist another technician in the workshop with their job or work with my mentor for the day
i have learned how to work as part of a team as well as working independently and improve my problem solving skills to assist me on jobs and rectifying the issue with the truck. i have also been able to improve my communication skills by talking to fellow colleges and drivers.
i have always wanted to be an Heavy Goods Vehicle Technician and so far into my apprenticeship i am really enjoying it. I like the fact i am being trusted to carry out small jobs and not being forced out of my skill set and comfort zone so far during my apprenticeship
the program is structured very well, with regular visits from my skills coach i am able to develop my skills at a steady pace as well as get my course work carried out to a high standard. when down at college the tutors are very helpful and answer all your questions to a high standard
with regular meetings with my service manager, workshop controller and mentor i am able to express any problems or issues i have within the company and if they affect my learning experience. my employer always try there best to address the issues brought up in the regular meetings and fulfils my needs to develop.
regular visits from my skills coach assists me with completing my coursework and also get to address any issues with my learning or any issues with college. the skills coach also guides me in with what jobs i should be assisting on to aid me in developing my knowledge throughout my apprenticeship
i feel that the knowledge learnt from my college tutors, training provider, skills coach and fellow technicians helps me within the workplace and helps me carry out jobs to the highest and safest standard possible. i also feel that i have increased my knowledge working on trucks and will continue to do so
