  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • my role day to day is a general clean up of workshop for an hour first thing in the morning I then shadow a technician and carryout tasks and jobs of my own, this includes technical diagnoses of electrical faults, I also carryout routine servicing and repairs. i also shadow a technician while carrying out engine rebuilds and gearbox overhauls

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • i have learned lots of new skills from general house keeping to carrying out diagnoses of a complex fault. the skills i have developed my problem solving by shadowing technicians and carrying out fault finding on my own. i have also leaned new hands skills while fabricating various brackets and plates to secure different components on the vehicles

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • i enjoy my apprenticeship program very much as the college is state of the art and up to date with modern technology. the DAF apprentice college is the only college in Europe that has a euro 6 vehicle, they also are up to date with the latest diagnostics computers and equipment

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • my apprenticeship program has been well structured with the spacing of my trips to the DAF apprentice college. my time in the workshop is also structured well as my foreman and mentor work together to ensure i get to carryout task that relate to my next college block. however i feel my workshop portfoil has been held back due to not having a skills coach from skill net for about 3 to 4 months

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • i receive massive amounts of support from my employer especially when going down to college. my mentor will help me out with anything i am stuck with or unsure of also i get time to fill out my skill net portfolio and also i get time to carryout tech share training module which help my revise and prepare me for my college block

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • i receive great support from my skills coach mark hill from skill net however i feel throughout the middle of my apprenticeship i feel i received little support from them as i did not have a skills coach for 3 to 4 months which i felt i was held back carrying out my workshop portfolio

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • my qualification has helped me carryout my job role massively as it gives me the basic information and knowledge required to be a fully qualified and fully competent technician and be able to carryout the job to the highest standard possible. the qualification it self has helped me as it has helped me up my maths and English qualifications aswell as ICT and working with others cores skills

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • there are lot of chances for extra curricular activities, there are five a side football where you get the chance to socialise with the other depots and keep fit and healthy. they also encourage me to keep active and go to my muay thai boxing they help me by givng me time to train and fight

  • 9a. Would you recommend MOTUS Commercials to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • i would recommend imperial commercials for a technicians apprenticeship as the level and skill base of the technicians are second to none and the volume of work i great for learning with the amount of different faults and servicing routines to be carried out, also once your apprenticeship is finished you have the chance to progress and further better yourself and push the boundaries


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to MOTUS Commercials?
  • tips for applying to imperial commercials is to look keen and interested in the HGV industry. also when applying and coming through the recruitment process research about the job and the company and try and find some basic knowledge of the vehicles i.e how to remove and refit a wheel, also research the job role and the industry to give you an insight the day to day life of an HGV technician
