I am a wealth management apprentice in the Emerging Markets sector, I currently assist client advisors (CA) and their assistants (CAA) with admin related jobs. For example I can help in the account opening process for a client and can sometimes produce valuations of assets for the clients.
As well specific skills needed to do the job I have learnt a few extra things. For example, how to organize my time and workload more efficiently; how to communicate effectively with other members of my team; lastly how to take coherent minutes during a meeting.
I enjoy it as much as anyone can enjoy a full time job, but my favourite aspect of the programme is completing the qualification along side working, and learning about all the investment opportunities in the financial market
The learning bit is very structured and we are given a specific amount of time to complete each exam which helps to structure the learning. The working aspect is not that structured, we are not given a specific role but told to learn as much as possible from the CAAs. This means we sometimes get varied work from everyone in the team.
There is a good amount of support given to the apprentices. The employer has managed to support us with the help of line managers and learning support members; without making us feel like children (which is amazing).
We have a skills coach that sees us every 2 months to discuss our overall progress through the programme, this includes exam tips and going over what I've learnt in the office. I can email and ask questions any time and I always get a fast response.
I am able to understand the jargon used by the CAA and CAs relating to the financial markets. My knowledge about different offerings allows me to put my role into perspective and helps me understand the impact of my role on the service to the client.
Yes there are loads of networking groups and networks to be a part of if you are interested. The apprentices also have a committee with funding that organize events all the time.
Yes
Its a great company to start your career no matter what you're doing.
Do your research about UBS and the sector you are applying for. Practice the interview questions you're given and have examples of things you've done ready to refer to.
