I work as a Business Manager for Financial Crime Prevention in the Compliance and Operational Risk Division. My role contributes to the management of the budget. I am producing forecasts and liaising with senior management for hiring approvals. I'm also making regular reconciliations to improve the accuracy of our data. This allows our team to produce forecasts of a higher quality.
Yes. I would say that in my first 6 months here my communication skills and excel skills have developed the most. We use excel to produce our forecasts which include multiple formulas. Our data is also stored in excel so to carry out my reconciliations I use the V-lookup function in excel. My communication skills have also improves, being in a professional office environment, I'm exposed to a high level of written English in emails, this exposure has improved my own writing.
I really enjoy the programme, the work is interesting and I find that my time at the desk flies by. The support from our programme leads is also great, they are very approachable and lay on many opportunities for us away from the desk. I also enjoy the social aspect of working life in the city.
Very well structured. We are usually given ample notice for any training days, exams and other events. This allows us to see the structure of the programme and I personally haven never had any issues in not knowing the structure of the programme. Although there is a structure, the programme can still be tailored on a more individual basis for example, we are given a choice on when we do our exams.
So far my support has been excellent, I find that working in my team, they appreciate that I am an apprentice who is looking to learn. They understand that I do not have the same levels of experience as other employees and my training is therefore structured with this in mind .
I've found Fitch to be excellent so far. Their online portal has plenty of questions and clear video tutorials. I have only ever used Fitch and I managed to pass my first exam on my first attempt so that would show that the support provided by Fitch works for me.
My qualifications (IOC and Risk in Financial Services) give me a better understanding of the banking industry as a whole. Working in Financial Crime, I have found that the Risk qualification really helps me as I am learning theories and then seeing them in practice on a day to day basis.
Yes, we have 2 volunteering days on top of our annual leave. There is a catalogue of events that we can get involved in and spend our 2 volunteering days on. I have used one day already where I went to a local school with some other UBS employees where we helped to run the school's sports day.
Yes
I think its a great place to work with principles such as such as challenge. We have a challenge culture here where we are encouraged to ask questions and challenge anything we don't agree with. I also enjoy where our office is in Liverpool Street. The fellow employees at UBS are generally all people that are easy to get on with too.
I would say to research heavily on UBS principles and behaviors as we are a company that take those principles and behaviors very seriously. Having a good knowledge of these will definitely help in the HR interview. I also think you should research into the history of UBS as it's interesting but also impressive from an interviewer's perspective.
