Software developer Review

I'm a software developer currently working on a new communication program between suppliers and smart meters. Usually my day consists of getting given one or more tasks to complete a specific feature or fix of the program; my role can also include helping the test team to work the programme and if the problem they are facing is an actual problem.

With working on a big team I have been able to develop my skills in team working and communication; this is key when working with big teams and you can find yourself helping them out a bit with different situations. This also follows into my listening skills making sure that I understand what another person is saying and making sure that I can complete my tasks on time.

I enjoy the program a lot; I get to do what I have wanted to do for quite some time. I learn more whilst working on an actual project than I thought I would and Im glad I didn't just go off to university as I would not be able to learn at my own pace.

The structure at work is great they help getting you started very well and they continue to still help through out your programme, whether this is helping you understand the basics or even just getting your laptop ready. The only problem I have is with the actual apprenticeship program and how long it took them to get me started on an actual lesson.

I get help from my employer every day, weather this is to do with a specific task or even with my apprenticeship work. Im also asked that everything is going well and that they are always there if I do need some help. I also get a call from other members every few months to make sure everything at the company is going well and that if I do need help that I can go to them.

The training provider for my experience has been a little bit lacking. It took a few months for me to actually get started on any work for my first bit of qualifications and then once I had finished its taken a while for me getting onto the next stage, Ive also not had as many classes as I would of liked which means Im only doing the work so I have enough credits for my qualification.

On the courses I have been on I have noticed a difference when I came back to work on how I programmed and the different languages I could use. An example of this is when I went on a database course that I new when I got back to work I was able to take on more tasks to do with the database cause I could understand it better.

The are constant activities going on at my work that people can get involved this include social activities with your team mates or even work wide activities that can be at a cheaper price or even free that allows you to interact with other members of the company that you would not usually meet.

It is a great company to work for, there are a lot of opportunities to do different pieces of work in different sectors. There are also great benefits such as the discount scheme to allow saving for different companies or the share scheme which can help you save money and allows extra money to come in.

You should apply if you like the position you're applying for; this will help a lot when coming to your interview as you can show off that this is definitely what you want to do and also show off that you want to be there for a while. Also display that you are kind and always willing to help anyone.
