I am on a 5 year contract with Deloitte LLP, specialising in the Financial Services sector. The majority of my day-to-day work involves auditing the financial statements of companies. I am also studying towards my ACA and therefore spend some time in college and on study leave. In my first year, my main responsibilities were around performing testing on the balances within the balance sheet of a companies financial statements. As I progress into my second year, my role will change slightly. In terms of testing, I will now be in charge of more of the balances within the profit and loss account of the financial statements and also will have the role of overseeing my junior grades.
I am studying towards my ACA with Deloitte and plan to be qualified within around 4 years. We have various internal training courses which help us to develop our communication and professional skills.
I personally think this scheme is such a great opportunity for school/college leavers who are not sure if university is for them/will benefit them in anyway and also for people who want to get straight into their working life and start their career. The job itself is very interesting but it is also the people at Deloitte that make day-to-day work enjoyable.
We have a lot of internal recognition programmes that are enforced from the second you start your role, these come in the form of appraisals, ratings, promotions and bonuses. On a day-to-day basis, there is also a lot of informal recognition through the means of feedback.
Even though this scheme is relatively new to the firm, there is still a lot of information available about our roles and qualifications. We are invited to a range of inductions when we first start with the company from training in the office and also residentials with our year group.
From the day you apply for a role you are contacted by someone within the Human Resources department to guide and support you through the application process. Once you receive your job offer, you will gradually be introduced to more people who are involved in your personal development and support. These range from an informal 'Buddy' to a formal 'Appraiser'.

We receive a basic salary plus a number of benefits. If we are required to travel to various clients, we will receive appropriate expenses.
There are lots of events that are available to attend with work. These range from events organised by the firm enabling us to meet other people from other professional services e.g. lawyers to community days in which we spend a day out in the community doing activities such as painting/gardening for those in need of a little help. There are also many social events that are planned on a weekly to fortnightly basis, these could be as a year group, a department or for the whole firm.
Yes
Everyone within Deloitte that you I have personally ever met have been so helpful and supporting. The application process and interviews can be a little daunting at first, especially for a School Leaver, but it is well worth it and is a lot of fun!
