Working closely with the client to obtain support to gain comfort over all balances of the financial statements. Learning about accountancy, including different concepts, in order to develop experience and knowledge necessary to qualify as a chartered accountant and pass all exams necessary. Working as part of a team to distribute work load and complete all testing of accounts required.
I have built the foundations of my accountancy knowledge which I will build on at college and through my studies in order to pass my exams and obtain by ACA qualification. I have learnt about how to interact and communicate professionally in the workplace which has enabled me to build professional working relationships.
I enjoy the programme to a large extent, mainly because the challenges constantly allow me to develop new skills and push me to learn which is what I need in order to pass my qualifications. The people I work with and the networking events make the job very enjoyable. However, it can be extremely stressful at times.
The programme is very well structured, providing an appropriate mix between college, independent study time and on the job learning/working. The only negative I would say is the large gap in between college and the accountancy exam (8 months). It would be more beneficial if they were closer together.
I receive a great deal of support from my employer and they understand that when we have exams its important that we are given enough time to study. If I have any questions, there is always someone who is willing to help. This is highly beneficial for my learning and development.
I receive regular emails from people in charge of my learning who I can easily reach out to if I every have any queries or questions regarding my college/exams/qualification. College is very helpful, teaches me a great deal of information which I can revise in my own time.
The information I have learnt through my training provider is essential in the work I perform day to day. It gives me the knowledge I can build on when I see 'real life' situations. It gives me a better understanding of concepts I wouldn't otherwise understand and a chance to clarify anything and ask questions.
There are a number of networking and social events which I like to attend. there are also a number of groups which you can join at EY, eg, women's network, which enable people to get support from people similar to them who hey may feel comfortable taking to. There are also sporting clubs.
Yes
There is a lot of opportunity for progression at EY which is something I am keen to take advantage of. You also can gain a qualification which is recognised all around the world whilst working and earning money. There is also so much opportunity to network and meet new people.
Get the correct balance between studying and workings Ask the right questions from the right people to get the correct support you need for your development Never be afraid to ask for help and don't struggle in silence- everyone is willing to help Take advantage of networking and social events
