  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My day to day role consists of testing a clients accounts, for example payroll or cash. When I perform this testing it can lead to the audit team gaining assurance that the figures the client has posted and will use on their stats is materially correct giving stakeholders more confidence.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Having to communicate effectively is a skill i feel has been developed upon massively since my time at EY, especially due to the variety of teams and the exposure to clients. More broadly though due to the in-house web based learning provided by EY you can learn as much as you have time for.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the program very much. The steep learning curve is something that takes some adjusting to but aside from the learning I've felt very welcomed by all at EY, there is a good culture and social side in the office which can lead to getting to know people very quickly.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program is well organised. Even in the recruitment process i felt that i was always kept well informed with what was taking place and what was required from me and i feel the same now. There is always people and teams you can reach out to if you need help or clarification on anything.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Support wise, there are a lot of options for employees at EY. When you first join you are assigned a buddy which is one year above you to which you can ask all your silly questions. You are also assigned a Councillor who is more senior and can help you deal with more serious workplace issues. Along with this there is a multitude of resources at your disposal at EY to support you through any situation.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The training provider gives us all the study materials in paper form and also digital which can be very helpful. You are also assigned a tutor to which you can email you help on topics and exam specific questions. Lessons are also hosted to which you will attend to help with the revision for your exams.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification links directly to your role and as your understanding of the qualification grows so will that of your work also. The understanding gained from the time spent for your qualification will allow you to be more in depth and clear when sat performing your day to day work.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There a many activities to be involved in and be apart of. For me i play in the 5 a side football and am planning to partake in an EY mud run similar to a tough mudder. Perhaps the biggest thing though is that if you would like to do something different there is the support to start your own club.

  • 9a. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would, because my time at EY so far has been very enjoyable and i also feel that it was also a smart choice for me as an alternative to university, as i joined EY after my A - levels on their school leaver program. I'm glad that i persisted with the applications and made this decision.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • Sounds cheesy, but be yourself, as i'ts the greatest differentiator. The office thrives of everyone bringing their own interpretations to the table and makes the culture at EY so unique. The assessment centers are your time to convey this although you may have to fight through some nerves first.
