Associate Review

The position that I hold at Ernst and Young is as an auditor. I am currently employed at staff level. On a day to day basis, I perform a variety of audit and other procedures, working either at our office in Canary Wharf or at the site of a client.

I have definitely both learnt new skills and developed my existing skills. In fact, this is the aspect of my apprenticeship which gives me the most satisfaction and fulfillment. An example of a new set of skills I have acquired is the use of Microsoft excel, word and powerpoint programs.

I enjoy certain aspects of the program to a great extent. For example, there is a very agreeable working culture at Ernst and Young, the people are very friendly, and the facilities/ the office contributes to a relaxed but motivated sentiment in the workplace. Additionally, the work can be enjoyable at times.

The apprenticeship I am enrolled on at Ernst and Young LLP is well structured, and all the facts and qualities of the program were clearly presented to me as an applicant before joining. The team responsible for managing the apprenticeship is very pro-active and professional, providing advice on all aspects of the program.

My employer provides support in all aspects of working life, as well as certain aspects pertaining to personal matters. For example, there is a culture of fairly flexible working, whereby teams will generally be accommodating for personal circumstances affecting the hours of the day you are able to spend working.

The company which has been selected by the company to provide training towards professional qualifications for the people on the apprenticeship programme has so far been exceptionally supportive. This applies to both their actions during periods spent physically in college, as well as the time we spend at work. They provide great learning materials and quality instructors.

So far, I have not progressed very far into the learning and examinations required to gain my qualification. However, the instruction I have received in college certainly improved my ability to settle into a full working role, by providing a base level of knowledge related to the sector. This ensured an understanding of key concepts.

Ernst and Young seems to have something of a reputation in this area. The company provides numerous opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work. This includes multiple sports teams, ranging from serious to casual. Additionally, there are regular social events hosted by the company, which contribute to a comfortable working environment.

Ernst and Young provides the vast majority of what many young people are looking for in an apprenticeship. The work environment is comfortable, while retaining a healthy level of competition, allowing employees to grow personally and professionally. The company understands that by looking after the interests of employees, it will see more success.

Firstly, I would advise that you remain professional throughout the process and aim to present your positive qualities in a way that is applicable to the role you are applying for. Secondly, try to get involved in the company and understand how it operates; this should aid your success in securing a position.
