i am a data analyst who works within the HR Department, I also work alongside my line manager to look after our HR System, and to provide reports to specific employees who require this information. I also run monthly and weekly reports for may different stakeholders of the business. I analyse information and provide data insights
I have learnt new skills and also developed my existing skills that I have from my apprenticeship programme. I have learnt new formula's in excel, laws and regulations e.g. General Data Protection Regulation, new software other than excel, e.g. Power BI and how to programme in R and SQL.
I enjoy my apprenticeship programme as it is a field that I would like to have a career in. I have also learnt new skills and developed old ones which I would be able to apply to my day to day working life. I have also met new friends who are also taking an apprentice programme.
my apprentice programme is structured, however I have received some issues which has caused my apprentice programme to be on hold until I find a new apprentice provider. this has enabled me some time to be able to focus on my work and also add to my coursework before I under take exams.
I receive a lot of support from my line manager and team within HR. I am always given enough time to focus on my studies and also time to complete my coursework. this enables me to manage my workload and to meet deadlines with the reports that I produce for people.
previously I have not received a lot of support from my apprenticeship provider as I have had several learning support coaches, but when I am assigned my new learning support coach I hopefully will be able to pick up from where I left off previously and to continue learning to finish my course.
I feel that my training provider for my apprenticeship helps me to perform by providing learning and support materials that I am able to use in my own time through a virtual learning environment, they also provide me with websites that I am able to use which they recommend and that I would find useful.
currently there are no extra curricular activities that I take part in at my work place, but as a team we arrange to meet up outside of work to go for dinner or lunches. if there were any extra curricular activities that I was aware about I would look into this.
Yes
Costain is a great place to work and to develop your working career as there are so many opportunities that I would not have through other businesses, there are lots of benefits and rewards that are also offered by the company that are not necessarily given by other companies to its employees.
I would encourage others to be themselves when applying for a role at Costain and to ensure that they are applying for a role that really interests them. there is also progression in the company to make your way up to a more senior role if this is what would interest you.
