  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • In my role I am the first line of response for UNIX based storage systems. I would deal with Netbackups and make sure all storage and servers are running as they should. I work across many contracts. I do basic things such as change passwords and learning how to do more complex things like patching a server or multiple servers.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many new skills. As of going to college once a week I am learning the technical terminology needed for the foundation to my technical skills in the work place. I am currently getting a variety of windows, cisco and Linux based knowledge in networking. This is applied every day in work.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Yes I enjoy they program a lot, so far it has opened many doors for me in my future. Teachers are engaging and my work colleagues are all very helpful. I would say over all the course is a 7/10 as it is very engaging sometimes I feel like there is no direction that its just sprung together for the sake of it.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • As I have said before I feel like the programme is structured well but is not a 10/10. Some classes feel like they where just put together and sometimes the apprentice functions in Northern Ireland are not put together as well as they could be and a lack of interaction compared to the main land is noticeable.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support by my employer. I have a medical condition and my employer works round all my medical appointments etc. Also any questions on my job role or anything I am struggling with I can ask with out hesitation. Always someone there to help. They are more than good.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have so far received hours out of work to attend my classes, hours in work to do CW. They are a great employer and they do a great job in helping me and my fellow apprentices if we have any problems. I would say they are up there with the best employer I have worked for in an education basis.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It has an enormous effect. The training out side my employment goes along way in work, some queries I have had leaving work are normally answered the next day or week in Tech. Also I get the practical knowledge to bring into the class room that some other might not get and we have created a knowledge base with in our year.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • As I am not here as long as other I do not quite know anything other than the fundraisers and Apprentice forums. However I have been told their is always something going on around the building either a night at the rugby or some other outside of work activity. Mostly in house Networking ones I know about.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Fujitsu to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Fantastic place to work for, a bit behind at the moment but the future looks bright. Good atmosphere and good community feel to the company. Learning resources are their if you want to progress. They have a great apprenticeship and HLA scheme in NI and it will open many doors in the organisation and with others.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Fujitsu?
  • Just fill out the application form and when it comes to the interview be your self highlight your strengths and spin your negatives into positives. Relax and don't stress about it. Also if your not sure on anything don't be scared to contact me for help. But main thing is that you apply.
